Fortunately schools have definitely improved since the old days, and students are now receiving the care and attention that they so desperately need. For instance, many classrooms are now what we know as collaborative or inclusion classrooms. This means that individuals in counselor jobs will be present in the classroom to help the teacher deal with these special needs children effectively, something that was nearly impossible in the past.
If you are in one of the many education jobs, then you should definitely learn how to deal with these special needs children, as they are very different from your run of the mill students. First of all, they will have a fair amount of trouble interacting with others. While you might not realize it, they actually have feelings that mirror social anxiety disorder and may even believe that the other students dislike them, even though they haven't made an effort to interact with those students at all in the first place.
You may also notice that the child with Asperger's syndrome seems to have a hard time paying attention. If the child seems to have done something wrong, you should know that they might not have meant it. It is important for those in teacher jobs to point out what the student has done wrong. It may take a few tries, but at some point they will understand and they will stop doing it. It is also no secret that the children affected by Asperger's syndrome have trouble showing their emotions. It is very important to teach them these things through either stories or by doing role play situations.
When they do something positive, it's very important that you give them praise. Through this they will know that what they have done is right, and they will continue to do the right thing, as they will know that those around them will be happier when they behave.
Yelling is rarely a good solution, unless the student has done something wrong that they know is wrong. Even in such cases a disciplinary action might be necessary, but normally a good lecture will suffice. It's very important to try and put yourself in their shoes, to try and understand exactly what they're going through. After all, they have no idea that anything is wrong, they just know that a lot of people simply do not like them.
As you can see, education jobs and counselor jobs have become much more complicated. On a brighter note however, there are many students who are being helped instead of left behind to drop out and work menial jobs for the rest of their lives. Now that some light has been shed on the learning process, the future of education jobs has become much brighter than it ever was before, and many children will have a better future.
