About Assumption University:
Assumption University is a comprehensive, Catholic liberal arts institution sponsored by the Augustinians of the Assumption. We awaken in students a sense of wonder, discovery, and purpose, forming graduates known for their intellectual seriousness, thoughtful citizenship, and devotion to the common good. Our curricular and co-curricular programs provide students with an education that shapes their souls, forms them intellectually, and prepares them for meaningful careers. We are a diverse community that welcomes different points of view and embraces all who share our mission. Enlivened by the Catholic affirmation of the harmony of faith and reason and by the pursuit of the truth in the company of friends, an Assumption education transforms the minds and hearts of students. An Equal Opportunity Employer. Assumption favors diversity, ecumenically welcomes all who share its goals, and strongly encourages applicants from underrepresented racial minorities to apply.
Job Description:
The Department of Philosophy at Assumption University seeks to hire one or two part-time adjunct instructors for the fall 2022 semester. The University is committed to in-person instruction; we plan that these courses will not be online. However, given the uncertain nature of the current coronavirus pandemic, applicants may need to accommodate a couple remote learners in the same section.
The department needs to staff a few sections of our first course in philosophy: Socrates and the Search for Truth. The classes are capped at 22 students. Currently, class times are flexible. Classes will run from Wednesday, August 24 through Friday, December 2, with final exams ending Friday, December 9.
Adjuncts are welcomed as important contributors to the department, to our students, and are provided with office space, email, voicemail, support for teaching and other resources needed for quality teaching. Successful candidates may have the possibility of teaching additional courses in subsequent semesters.
Requirements:
Applicants must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
A Ph.D. in philosophy or a related field is preferred, but with a M.A. in philosophy and prior teaching experience will also be considered.
Application Instructions:
Please submit a letter of interest, current curriculum vita, and the names and contact information for two references who can attest to the applicant's teaching experience and qualifications. In the cover letter, we invite candidates to describe their experiences working with a diverse student body. Finalists will also be asked to provide official transcripts of academic work from the highest degree-granting institution and two written letters of recommendation. Materials must be submitted online as MS Word documents or PDF files at the following website: www.assumption.edu/hr. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position(s) is filled. Appointments are contingent on course enrollments.
