Assumption University is a private, Catholic university which offers its 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students a Catholic liberal education. Job Description:

The Office of Campus Ministry at Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts seeks a practicing Catholic to serve as a full-time Campus Minister for Liturgical Music and Mission Trips. This is a ten month position (August 1 through May 31) that begins on August 1, 2022. The person would join a University Pastoral Ministry Team that includes two other full-time campus ministers, two InterVarsity Christian Fellowship representatives, four Fellowship of Catholic University Students missionaries, a chaplain to Latinx students, a graduate assistant, and other members of the Assumption community who contribute to ministry on campus. Like all members of the Team, this person would share in the evangelization, faith formation and spiritual development mission of Campus Ministry. As a full-time campus minister, his or her specific areas of responsibility would be the direction of liturgical music and service/immersion mission trips at the University.

We are looking for a person who:

* Has a strong personal faith life and understands his/her ministry as a vocation

* Is committed to evangelization among undergraduate students and enthusiastic about supporting their growth as disciples

* Is committed to supporting Catholic students and students from other faith traditions in their faith formation and spiritual growth

* Enjoys working collaboratively with an ecumenical team of colleagues and student leaders

* Would embrace and support the Catholic and Assumptionist mission and identity of the University

* Is committed to continuing ministerial development and spiritual formation

For the liturgical music portion of the job:

* Has a solid understanding of Catholic liturgy and training in liturgical practice

* Has training and experience in animating liturgy through music, with a priority for engaging the participation of the entire assembly

* Knows, and has experience in leading, music from a variety of styles, including contemporary praise and worship music and music that reflects the cultural diversity of the Church

* Plays piano and organ, and can lead students playing a variety of instruments

* Understands the place of various models of musical leadership during liturgy: eg, cantor, solo instruments, small ensemble of singers or instruments, full choir

For the mission trip portion of the job:

Has a solid understanding of Catholic social teaching

* Has experience in, and is not overwhelmed by, managing a variety of administrative and logistical details

* Would collaborate well with mission trip partners including Catholic Relief Services and various domestic and international host organizations

* Is committed to integrating faith, service and immersion as integral components of a relationship-based approach to mission trips

* Is able to lead week-long immersion trips once or twice each year (Christmas break, spring break, after graduation in May), including driving students in a van

Responsibilities of this position:

Liturgical Music:

Working closely with the Director of Campus Ministry who also serves as the Director of Liturgy, the person would integrate music in University prayer and worship.

* Prepare and direct music that animates weekly Sunday 10 AM and 7 PM Masses, holyday liturgies, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Baccalaureate Mass, and other University liturgies.

* Recruit, train and prepare student music ministers (eg, cantors, singers, instrumentalists).

* Oversee maintenance and repairs for Chapel organ, piano and other musical instruments.

* Coordinate music for weddings, funerals and memorial services in University Chapel, and serve as liaison to other musicians who may lead music at these services.

* Prepare music and recruit, train and prepare music ministers for University liturgies when students are away (eg, Christmas Eve Mass, Triduum, summer Sunday 10 AM Mass).

* Serve as a liaison to music faculty at the University, including the organ professor who teaches the student organ scholars.

Mission Trips:

Working under the supervision of the Director of Campus Ministry, the person would oversee all aspects of Campus Ministry sponsored mission trips.

* Plan 4-6 mission trips per year in conjunction with domestic and international host organizations, and coordinate all related details (e.g., travel, finances, student recruitment).

* Prepare and lead sessions to prepare students for upcoming mission trips and to help students reflect on recently completed mission trips.

* Lead one or two mission trips each year, and assist other members of the Pastoral Ministry Team who will lead the other trips during the year.

* Recruit and train student leaders for each mission trip.

General Campus Minister Responsibilities:

* Participate in weekly Campus Ministry meetings, monthly University Pastoral Ministry Team meetings, weekly/biweekly meetings with the Director of Campus Ministry, and programs and/or committees with colleagues in other departments.

Requirements:

* Bachelor of Music required, Master of Music preferred;

* Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.

* Understanding of and appreciation for Catholic liturgy and liturgical music required;

* Experience and demonstrated success as choral conductor in a liturgical music setting required;

* Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required by the position;

* Vaccinated and Booster for COVID-19 a requirement.

Additional Information:

Salary, Benefit and Work Schedule Information:

* The salary is for ten months of work (August 1-May 31), but it is paid over twelve months. The person in this position is free to contract other work in the months of June and July.

* Full University benefits are included.

* Regular work schedule includes Sundays, some evenings (including music ministry rehearsal on Thursday evenings) and some holidays.

* Leading music at weddings, funerals, memorial services, non-University events in the University Chapel, and weekly Sunday morning Mass in June-July provides additional income.

* The Campus Minister could be considered for a Minister in Residence position on campus. This provides free simple housing (apartment with private bathroom and small kitchen) in a student residence hall and a small meal plan in return for pastoral ministry in one of the University's residential areas.
