Office of Research and Creative Scholarship
invites applications for a
NSF Engines Project Director
to join their team. This position will provide project management for the new National Science Foundation (NSF) Engines Type 1 award. The Type 1 award is a planning grant of $1M over 18 months to ensure that a large and complex organization of individuals will write and submit a successful NSF Engines Type 2 proposal which will drive economic development in the state with a potential award of $160M over 10 years. There are 13 partners and 5 research universities from the 5 state Northern Rockies Northern Plains includes several state, federal, private and industry partners.
This position is responsible for all aspects of the proposal development from scheduling and leading all meetings of the 6 working groups (fire, water, forest, rangeland, sensing and workforce) that will write portions of the proposal. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring that the budget as awarded from NSF is spent according to the Statement of Work as well as develop and submit a proposal with a reasonable expectation for funding. Finally, the incumbent will ensure that the proposal is submitted in a timely fashion to the NSF by the appropriate due date.

Job Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
Salary for this position is $100,000-$120,000 per year commensurate with qualifications
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in a field related to any of the research areas associated with the 6 working groups
Significant experience in a university setting of research program funding and the development of a research proposal
Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work with and manage groups of faculty members and non-university personnel
A high degree of independence, discretion, and professionalism in the performance of many complex and critical functions in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or doctoral degree in a related field or at least 5 years industry/federal agency experience in fire, water, forestry or rangeland management
Previous experience working with state and federal agencies in forest or rangeland management
