The Campus Minister for Discipleship is the head of the Department of Campus Ministry’s Discipleship Team and, in close collaboration with the department’s missionary/religious partners (FOCUS, SPO, and CSJ), is responsible for planning, and coordinating all adult faith formation activities and programming (i.e., retreats, catechesis, Bible studies, small fellowship groups, RCIA, etc.) on campus. The Campus Minister for Discipleship is also responsible for engaging with students across all demographics of the University community in determining their specific pastoral needs and developing ways in which Campus Ministry can best serve a wider range of students. The Campus Minister for Discipleship ensures that all in the University community are given ample opportunities to be formed in the Catholic Faith and grow in Christian discipleship, and for helping students grow in their roles as student leaders both during their time at Seton Hall and in their future careers. The Campus Minister for Discipleship also acts as a liaison between the Department of Campus Ministry and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership in coordinating and evaluating the ministries of the FOCUS and SPO Missionaries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate all adult faith formation and discipleship activities/programming of the FOCUS Missionaries, SPO Missionaries, and Brothers and Sisters of Saint John. Special emphasis should be placed on ensuring there are no gaps or redundancy in services/opportunities offered to students. Assist FOCUS, SPO, and CSJ in more effectively engaging and serving a broader range of students through their regular programming and special events.
2. Develop, plan, advertise, execute, and assess - in close contact with the Director of Campus Ministry, Discipleship Team members, and student leaders, - various retreats for individual groupings of students, as needed (I.e., freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, athletes, men, women, etc.).
3. Develop, implement, and assess activities/programming to involve unengaged or non-practicing students in Campus Ministry and the Catholic faith. Develop, implement, and assess activities/programming that aid in the spiritual and intellectual growth of students who are already somewhat engaged in Campus Ministry or actively practicing the Catholic faith.
4. Work closely with the Director of Campus Ministry, Associate Director of Campus Ministry, Director of DOVE and the Campus Ministry Graduate Assistant in determining and meeting the pastoral and faith formation needs of students who have little to no current engagement in Campus Ministry.
5. Assist the Director of Campus Ministry, Associate Director of Campus Ministry, and the Campus Ministry Graduate Assistant in actively promoting Campus Ministry through inter-departmental collaboration, inter-collegiate collaboration, presence at campus-wide events, and weekly regular departmental programing.
6. Assist the Student E-Board in developing engaging and enjoyable community-building and catechetically fruitful Thursday Campus Ministry Night events.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or Related Field.
2. 2-3 years of experience in youth, campus, or young adult ministry in Catholic parochial and/or educational settings.
3. There is a need to be well formed in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the ability to articulate the teachings of the Church to both students and staff. Pastoral Counseling skills of a non-clinical nature are necessary.
4. There is a need to be able to organize both large and small group activities requiring attention to budget, location, University policies on health and safety, Mission and Ministry, and all other required related conditions.
5. There is a need to have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel and Powerpoint, and Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.). There is a need to be able to facilitate multi-media equipment.
6. There is a need for basic letter-writing, e-mail writing, and other basic written communication skills. There is also a need to compose schedules, presentations, classes, and other written materials.
7. There is a need to communicate in a professional manner with vendors, speakers, and other professionals. There is a need to be able to speak publicly in front of groups of various sizes, ages, and demographics.
