The Senior Director of Academic Development works collaboratively to develop and implement a goal-oriented and budget-conscious plan for increasing private support for school/college programs and initiatives, including scholarship support, endowed chairs/professorships and academic program funds. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, the Senior Director will lead a team of major gift officers (Directors of Development) and have a portfolio of major/planned/principal gift prospects. The Senior Director is directly involved in the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major/planned/principal gift prospects. The Senior Director effectively communicates the mission and values of the University. The Senior Director has a working knowledge of current best practices in all aspects of fundraising and collaborates with colleagues in University Advancement and all across the campus, including deans and other academic leaders.

The Senior Director will bring 7 years of experience in advancement or a related field, preferably in higher education and be passionate about building relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and friends. The Senior Director will have a track record of leading a team to solid fundraising results and demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts, especially in collaboration with senior leaders of an organization. The Senior Director will have experience leading volunteer boards or committees comprising of key volunteers and alumni who are being cultivated for major/principal gift support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Lead, manage, motivate, mentor and evaluate at least one major gift officer (director of development). Develop strategic goals, plans and performance measures on a continual and annual basis. Monitor activity and progress toward goals on a consistent basis. 20% of time

2. In consultation with the AVP-Development, deans, and other academic leadership, lead the development and execution of fundraising plans for school/college-based initiatives, including (but not limited to) graduate and undergraduate scholarships, academic programs, academic centers, and endowed professorships/chairs. 20% of time

3. Develop and executive effective fundraising strategies for engaging and soliciting major/planned/principal gift prospects in support of Seton Hall’s programmatic and philanthropic priorities. Work in partnership with the AVP to establish annual qualitative and quantitative goals, objectives and key accountabilities in order to increase donors and dollars raised for the University. 20% of time

4. Manage a personal portfolio of prospects by qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major/planned/principal gift prospects for school/college priorities. 20% of time

5. Serve as a valued source of fundraising expertise and guidance to the Associate Vice President for Development and the entire Development team and UA division. 10% of time

6. Undertake duties and special projects as assigned. 10% of time

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred. At least 7 years of experience in advancement or a related field, preferably in higher education and be passionate about building relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and friends.
