The Director of the Office of Grants and Research Services (OGRS) position is considered service rendered to the University. This is a 12-month position, comes with a stipend and reports to the Office of the Provost, specifically to the Associate Provost for Research and Innovation. Reporting for the remainder of faculty responsibilities remains unchanged. The OGRS Director oversees the office that guides, monitors, enhances,and expands Seton Hall’s research activities and portfolio. The OGRS Director serves as the University’s designated signatory for the submission of all external grants and partners with the Compliance Manager and Grants Generalist to oversee and staff the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and its regular operations along
with the University’s body for animal welfare protection, IACUC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires four (4) full days per week from roughly 8:45-4:45 generally on the South Orange campus. Principle duties include:
• Proactive outreach to learn, target, actively promote and represent the research expertise and output of the University, particularly but not exclusively for grants activities, in written and web venues
• Work with College/School leadership and cultivate the respective faculty to produce competitive and viable grant applications and awarded grants with the immediate goal of matching pre-pandemic levels of funding ($8m/year) in FY ‘22 and sustainable growth from that baseline by the end of FY ‘24
• Work with the resources and personnel of OGRS to inform College/School leadership and the
respective faculty of appropriate and viable grant opportunities
• Work collaboratively with Corporate and Foundation Relations in University Advancement to ensure that Seton Hall is both expansive and targeted in pursuit of viable and appropriate corporate and foundation grants and contracts
• Work with the resources and personnel of OGRS to oversee the annual University Research Council initiative
• Oversee and evaluate OGRS office operations, technologies, and personnel
• Maintain a database and regularly report on metrics: grant applications, grants awarded, and grants in process
• Produce/contribute to affiliated websites and the Annual Report for Research and Innovation
• Work with the resources and personnel of OGRS to ensure IRB processes and protocols are
followed, are efficient, and effective
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a current Seton Hall faculty member
- Familiarity with grants processes and technical/legal requirements
- Familiarity with compliance regulations
