The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Office of Inclusive Excellence and Community Engagement, is seeking an Adjunct Instructor of Physics for a six-week program that enhances academic preparedness for high school students. This high school experience is providing the equivalent of high school algebra based physics for students who do not have the opportunity to take physics at their school thus preventing them from having the necessary courses to apply to STEM majors here at UC. The University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Term Adjunct (part-time) faculty position. This position is for the summer term only. June – August or dates determined as the University adapts to the COVID 19 pandemic regulations.
The essential function of the position is to teach lessons equivalent to high school Physics as approved by the Ohio Department of Education. The Adjunct Instructor will develop the course with the Office of Inclusive Excellence staff. Courses may be taught in-person or on-line depending on course needs. Other responsibilities will include:
*Achieve the following outcomes with reasonable accommodation: teaching of high school Physics as approved by ODE with students showing mastery of topics *Commit to entire 6-week course plus orientation/planning days *Be a role model and guide for students *Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals *Evaluate the learning progress of students on a regular basis *Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students *Plan for and supervise Teaching Assistant (College student worker) *Cooperate with staff and support personnel in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, learning and behavioral problems
MINIMUM QUALICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and current Ohio Department of Education High School Physics Credential. Strong interpersonal Skills with Diverse Populations and the ability to maintain positive relationships with high school students.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to applicants with previous successful teaching experience at the High School and/or College Level. Preference may also be given to those with significant, related experience in Project Based Learning and Online Project Based Learning.
