Rural Institute on Disabilities
at the University of Montana invites applications for an
Instructional Designer
to join their team. This position will oversee the development and maintenance of multiple web-based courses targeting people with disabilities, as well as development of a new training platform for purchasing our suite of train-the-trainer workshops. The Research and Training Center within RIIC currently has 10 existing curriculums and training programs, and an additional 4 programs in development through new grant funding, that require a comprehensive skill set to further our aims of providing fully accessible and graphically appealing content for service providers and people with disabilities across the country.
Required skills for this position include database management, learning management systems, extensive programming in Drupal and Wordpress (including programming to ensure full accessibility for seeing, hearing, and physical disabilities such as screenreader, magnification, color contrast, heading structures, content sequencing, alt text, captioning, focus indicators, etc.). The position will be responsible for transitioning existing Drupal-based programs into Wordpress in such a way as to maintain consistency of programming in an evolving digital environment. In addition, the position will be responsible for developing video, audio, and graphic content that appeals to diverse learning styles and enhances learning through delivery in multiple formats and modalities. To maintain our customer service, this position requires advanced problem solving and trouble shooting skills to ensure our programs are fully functioning at all times, and also includes the creation of tutorials and detailed guides for employees.
Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Salary for this position is estimated at $70,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.
Required Skills
Graphic design experience, including digital illustrations, icons, and typography
Expertise in content management systems including Drupal, WordPress, Weebly, and Squarespace
Ability to write code in HTML5 and CSS to enhance site accessibility features and overall visual design
Adept with web hosting platforms, such as cPanel, FTP applications, phpMyAdmin, and site backups
Ability to build, design, and modify interactive learning modules through H5P
Understanding of accessible technologies, best practices, and code to meet web accessibility standards (WCAG) and perform a variety of accessibility tests
Experience with photography, photo editing, and associated design programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Audition, and Acrobat DC
Ability to develop reports using Google Analytics and site plugins to assess program fidelity
Knowledge of site maintenance practices, including database backups, site duplications, updates, and fixing breakages
Experience with registration system setup, support, and user account management
Ability to develop responsive design for functionality on all devices
Ability to install themes and plugins
Ability to produce multi-media content (videos, animations, audio files) that appeals to a range of learning styles
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Outstanding problem-solving abilities and strong desire to find creative solutions to problems by researching, analyzing options, and implementing results
Ability to multitask, manage busy schedules, and meet deadlines with very limited direction.
Able to communicate effectively in online and face-to-face environments
Preferred Education, Experience, and Knowledge
Advanced degree in digital media, media arts, instructional design or related discipline
5 years of relevant experience
Skills in copy editing
Expertise in learning management systems, including LMS, Canvas, and FutureLearn
Experience teaching using online platforms
