In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Surgery is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.
A full time Faculty position is available in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The Department is seeking a skilled and self-motivated researcher with interest and experience in outcomes, health services, and comparative effectiveness research. The Health Services Researcher (HSR) will be responsible for comprehensive analysis of data and information for Cincinnati Research in Outcomes and Safety in Surgery (CROSS) and other health services research teams within the department. In this position you will take a leadership role in the development, design, conduct and the analysis of clinical and healthcare investigations. The HSR will also assist and mentor surgical faculty and trainees in related research and quality improvement implementation. The potential exists for limited clinical activity as well if appropriate and desired. Academic rank and tenure track eligibility to be determined by experience and expectations for extramural funding.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties will include responsibilities for the research and teaching activities for CROSS and other health services research teams within the Department of Surgery.
The successful Health Services Researcher will:
*Independently develop, prioritize and manage multiple heath service outcomes, quality improvement and/or disparity in care research programs pertinent to broad interests of the Department of Surgery. *Perform statistical analyses and be able to teach and explain this analysis to a non-technical audience of both internal and external customers including senior management, residents and junior faculty. *Serve as expert consultant and mentor to medical students, residents and faculty on outcomes program design and project performance to ensure significant rigor, impact and feasibility of projects. *Produce a combination of quantitative financial analysis and clinical utilization analysis to produce new insights into drivers of program performance. *Obtain extramural funding to support own efforts and those contributing to this work. *Performs in accordance with system-wide values/behaviors.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
MD or PhD in addition to a Master's degree in research, policy, epidemiology, health care management, economics, or a similar, quantitative field is recommended.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
*Minimum of three-to-five years of work experience in outcomes related research; ten years preferred. *Prior experience in writing/submitting grants. *Demonstrated expertise in relevant program evaluation and design methods.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
*Expertise in analytical and statistical software tools and modeling to produce complex, quantitative clinical program analysis. *Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in the creation and interpretation of quantitative analyses, and to lead the development of evaluation plans. *Able to interpret and communicate to management and colleagues, verbally and through written reports and manuscripts, the results of complex, quantitative analysis. *Ability to design and plan program evaluations including clinical outcomes analysis and financial (ROI) assessment without supervision. *Prior experience with clinical modeling or data analysis. *Demonstrate prior application of analytics methods specifically to health insurance or health care delivery industry data at the intermediate level. *General knowledge of business and economic principles strengthens the application. *Advanced Analytics Technology Skills *Advanced-level experience using SAS or R to conduct analysis. *Demonstrated application of a similar programming language or analysis tool such as SPSS, STATA, or Statistica may also be acceptable. *The ability to extract and manipulate data from large, complex data sets with minimum assistance necessary.
