The Division of Cardiovasular Health and Disease within the Internal Medicine Department at the College of Medicine is seeking a full time Research Assistant. Duties in this position would include work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) on sponsored research projects performing standard and complex laboratory procedures in the field of vascular biology with specialization in mouse models of atherosclerosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm.
*Must be able to work with mouse models of pathology and willing to perform mouse surgical procedures. *Must have previous training in sterile surgical techniques. *Maintain accurate and timely record of test results; apply standard quality control procedures to assure accuracy of test results; operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment; collect data; organize and centralize files and records; and prepare solutions, reagents, media, histological sections (paraffin and frozen), or stains for prescribed tests. *Must be available for longer daily hours and weekend work for time-course experiments, when necessary, while remaining at a 40 hour work week. *Should have cell-culture and flow-cytometry training or experience. *Participates in meetings with the PI and be able to travel to local or National meetings for presentations of scientific work.
The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative, work independently; be technically proficient and accurate; effectively communicate in both written reports and presentations; initiate and ensure compliance with applicable safety procedures; and possess attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience in a lab setting conducting rigorous experments.
This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
