Job Description:
BASIC PURPOSE: Assists CDIC staff members in supporting career development and advising for undergraduate and Accelerated MBA students.
STATUS: This is a 20 hour per week, 40 week/year position from August 2022 - May 2023. Compensation includes free tuition in an Assumption University graduate program. Tuition includes 3 courses in the fall and 3 in the spring (fees not included) until graduate degree completed or employment ends, whichever occurs first. If you return to your position for the 2023-2024 academic year, you are entitled to two additional summer courses in the summer of 2023.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Conduct 1x1 advising meetings with students on topics including graduate school application process, resumes, cover letters, job/internship search strategies, interview skills, LinkedIn, and other career development topics.
2. Host regular drop-in advising hours to assist students with writing effective resumes and cover letters
3. Review student resumes submitted through Handshake and provide effective written feedback
4. Support the development of an innovative career education curriculum and resources for undergraduate students
5. Create and deliver career education workshops/classroom presentations on topics including, but not limited to, resumes, cover letters, job search strategy, networking and LinkedIn
6. Support student internship/job search strategy by assisting students in conducting searches on various job boards, utilizing search filters, and supporting outreach to alumni and potential employers
7. Support major and career exploration by delivering career assessments and evaluating results
8. Maintain accurate student advising records in Handshake
9. Assist in coordinating large CDIC events such as career fairs, networking events, and other professional development events
10. Support CDIC staff members with collecting graduates' post-graduate outcomes as part of the Graduation and First Destination Surveys.
11. Contribute to team meetings and complete additional project work as needed
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director for Career Development and Strategic Initiatives
Requirements:
1. Must be a current graduate student at Assumption University in good academic standing.
2. Willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
3. Bachelor's degree and 1-5 years of related professional experience in recruiting, guidance counseling, or career advising preferred. Internship experience may be substituted for work experience.
4. Effective time management, organization and project management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills
6. Ability to be proactive, innovative, and creative.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, LinkedIn and Social Media technology
8. Experience with Handshake and/or other CSM systems a plus.
9. COVID-19 vaccination and booster, required.
Additional Information:
SCOPE:
1. Interacts on a regular basis with Assumption University community, including faculty members, administration, staff, and students.
2. Work includes evening and weekends as needed for department events, presentations or other college events.
