Profile

Description:

Plymouth Business School is offering three Doctoral Teaching Assistantships with Part-Time Fee Scholarship for 5 years (4 years plus 1 writing up) in a PhD in the areas of Business and Management, Finance, Marketing, International Logistics, Supply Chain and Shipping Management or Tourism and Hospitality and a Part Time (0.5 FTE salary approximately £15,471 per annum) teaching contract at Grade 6. The School welcomes research proposals for a PhD study in the areas of: Sustainable supply chain management, Digital marketing / social media management, Coastal communities, Systems modelling and game theory, Social enterprise and entrepreneurship, Big data, business intelligence and knowledge economy, Economic behaviour, regional development and financial innovation, Maritime transportation including international shipping and logistics. The School would welcome applications that have the potential to have academic impact (how it changes how we think and theorise); economic and social impact (how it contributes to society and the economy as well as how it benefits individuals, organisations and nations); and instrumental impact (how it can make policy, practice, service provision and legislation better as well as how it shapes behaviour). In addition to the PhD Fee Scholarship, you will be trained to undertake teaching within a relevant subject area alongside our Undergraduate Programme team as well as participating in our research activities. You will not be expected to teach more than hours indicated as part of the fractional post you are applying for (factoring for 8 weeks holiday entitlement). This will be paid at Grade 6 on the University's pay spine. Research training will be supported through the University's Doctoral College, the Faculty and the Schools’ Research Training programmes, where you will be required to attend various 'research skills' modules. You will pursue a PhD degree supported by world class research teams and gain professional teaching experience within one of the areas indicated by each of the Schools. You are required to have a good honours degree (1st Class or an Upper 2:1) and likely a Masters degree in a relevant subject (completed with Distinction or a High Merit), and a strong wish to pursue a PhD in a relevant topic. You will also be interested in a career in the Higher Education Sector, specifically in teaching and research, and thus need to possess excellent communication and team working skills. You are highly encouraged to identify possible PhD supervisors in the areas of your research, and are invited to contact them in advance of making applications. Please see our Postgraduate Research page for PhD programmes, research areas and staff expertise. Unfortunately we cannot provide sponsorship for these posts, candidates must therefore hold the right to work and study in the UK. Please use the Apply Online button at the bottom of this page to submit an application along with a completed cover sheet. Interviews for these posts are expected to take place late August 2021.
