The ICONIC (Inter-generational CO-production of Novel technologies in Coastal communities) project has been funded by the EPSRC for 30 months from November 2022. This is an inter-disciplinary project with investigators from all three Faculties at the University. We seek two Post-Doc Research Fellows (PDRF) who will be based in (i) the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) and (ii) the School of Art, Design and Architecture (SADA). A current full driving licence and willingness to travel is desirable as you may be required to travel to remote areas not easily accessible by public transport. You will work with the academics and other PDRFs and members of the public to develop and test the new technologies. You will write academic papers and present both at professional conferences but also be prepared to present to the public and other lay audiences. You would normally possess or be about to complete a relevant PhD for your post. This is likely to be in Computing, Robotics, Engineering, or AI, although candidates from other disciplines can propose why their expertise is relevant. You should have expertise in areas such as VR, haptics, motion capture, voice interfaces, chatbots, bio-sensing, computer graphics, 3D scanning, physical interfaces, games development across different platforms using tools such as Unity or Unreal Engine, machine vision, deep learning, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and structure from motion (SfM), machine learning, and digital twins. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. For an informal discussion to find out more about these roles please contact either the academics relevant to each technology or Prof Ray Jones, the overall project lead by email ray.jones@plymouth.ac.uk Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. Interviews are expected to take place via Zoom on Friday 29 July 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not. At the interviews you will be asked to give a presentation on what skills and expertise you bring to the project.
