The successful candidate will support the educational research mission of the Department of Engineering Education (DEE) and the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS). The Research Data Analyst is expected to gather and analyze data from various databases and sources, perform statistical and/or mathematical programming, develop reports and visual representations, design, develop and/or maintain student information databases within DEE and CEAS, and provide consultation, technical assistance, and coordination for a wide variety of faculty and CEAS stakeholders. The Research Data Analyst is also expected to provide low level IT support to DEE’s faculty and staff, as well as serve as a liaison to the Office of College Computing in CEAS. The ability to analyze data, maintain database dictionaries, and integration of systems through database design is essential. Must work proficiently in most phases of database management.
Primary Duties:
*Design, develop and/or maintain a student information database that includes the integration of data from existing University and CEAS data systems; *Design, collection, reporting, analysis and presentation of CEAS student data and information. *Assist with various tasks associated with assessment studies, analysis, and evaluation of academic and non-academic topics; *Conduct survey research analysis including: administration and logistics, compilation of data results, presentation and visualization of results; *Assist in peer institution analysis and benchmarking activities through querying state and national databases; *Provide low level departmental IT support; and *Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Minimum Qualifications:
*Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Statistics, Math, Computer Science or equivalent; *Minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing large data sets, analyzing statistical techniques and software, and reporting data in a meaningful format; *Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education.
Additional Qualifications for this specific department position include:
*Knowledge of relational database management systems' (RDBMS), 'object oriented database management systems' (OODBMS) and XML database management systems; *Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming and web application development with at least one of the following programming languages: PHP, ASP.NET, Javascript or Ruby on Rails; *Experience with their database software/web applications; *Knowledge of computer hardware and systems to provide low level IT support; and *Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
*Proficient with building predictive models; *Advanced SQL skills working experience with SQL Server Analysis Services preferred;
*Proficient with relational databases, SQL, data transformation, data mining, and ad hoc analysis; *Have programming skills and in-depth knowledge of modern HTML/CSS;
*Able to manipulate large, complex data sets using a variety of software applications (SPSS, SAS, Tableau); *Excellent data visualization skills with tools like Tableau; *Excellent in analyzing data and drawing appropriate conclusions; *Proficient with Database and Statistical applications and can automate routine procedures and/or create tools that increase productivity and efficiency; *Strong motivation and ability to work independently; *Effective presentation skills across a diverse audience; and *Ability to work productively with others in a highly collaborative manner.
