Based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Biological and Marine Sciences is primed to enable students to achieve their ambitions by linking research to real world problems. Students are equipped with the skills they need to make a positive impact on the sustainability of our environment and society. Our programmes are grouped into three subject areas: inspiring change for a more sustainable future with biological sciences; protecting the diversity of marine life on our planet with marine biology; and exploring, understanding and protecting our ocean systems with marine science. With many amazing ecosystems right on our doorstep, Plymouth boasts one of the highest concentrations of world-leading marine scientists in Europe and benefits from world-class research facilities such as the Marine Station and LABplus. The Marine Sciences Group within the School of Biological & Marine Sciences at the University of Plymouth is seeking to appoint a new Lecturer. While we will consider exceptionally strong candidates of any marine sciences background who can contribute to the teaching of physical sciences topics, we are preferentially seeking a candidate with demonstrable record of Global Scale/Big Data expertise. You will be a highly motivated and dynamic academic who will be expected to become a productive member of the Coastal Processes Research Group (CPRG), the Marine Physics Research Group (MPRG), or the Marine Conservation Research Group, all of which have strong international recognition and are key contributors to the marine portfolio in a university with a top 5 global ranking in marine science impact. Our Marine Science team has internationally recognised expertise in field and numerical studies of coastal processes, studies of fundamental physical processes in marine systems, assessment of the impacts of human activity on marine systems, and a growing expertise in marine autonomous systems. The team is embedded in the School of Biological and Marine Sciences with a wide range of research expertise and degree programme delivery. This role is closely aligned to our BSc programmes in Oceanography and Coastal Processes and Ocean Exploration and Surveying, and the postgraduate programmes, MSc Applied Marine Science, and MSc Hydrography, but you will also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching across the Marine Sciences Subject Group (https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/schools/school-of-biological-and-marine-sciences/marine-science) You will have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, supported by experience at postdoctoral or equivalent level, and a proven research track record demonstrated through high calibre outputs of a quality likely to contribute to our future UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission. Clear evidence of successful grant applications as a PI is desirable.
