COSTUME SHOP SUPERVISOR (ADJUNCT ASSISTANT PROFESSOR)

Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Theater and Dance
. This position’s principal duties are to oversee and manage the Costume Shop and costume storage as well as the construction and completion of costumes for all productions in the School of Theatre & Dance. This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work with a wide range of expertise from student workers to faculty/guest designers/directors, and the capacity to meet production demands on time and on budget.
The successful candidate will have the insight and ability to solve costume construction issues and to handle multitasking and overlapping production timelines. Responsibilities include: hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student employees; developing and overseeing budgets; managing shop equipment, inventory, supplies, and storage areas; teaching students construction and patterning techniques (in conjunction with costume design and technology faculty); and planning, organizing and supervising daily activities in order to establish a safe, efficient learning environment. Possible opportunity to provide costume design for season productions. This non-tenured one-year salaried position will work with the faculty/staff in the School and will be supervised by the Director of the School of Theatre & Dance. This position will teach two sections of 107A, and 307. They will also supervise and manage the Costume Shop and student work projects.
Teaching
Supervise the construction and completion of costumes and costume-related pieces for all School of Theatre & Dance productions through direct instruction of students registered for Theatre Production Labs.
Participate in mentorship of student designers and technicians in conjunction with costume design and technology faculty, including oversight of fittings.
Train and oversee costume production run crews for rehearsals and performances.
Work with student choreographers to design costumes for dance pieces presented as part of their junior/senior projects.
Service
Ensure that shop equipment is serviced regularly and in good working order; order and purchase fabric, notions, and shop supplies.
Oversee dry cleaning, laundering, storage, and maintenance of stock and rentals as well as donations of clothing and materials to the shop.
Organize the work schedule for the costume builds for each production, according to deadlines and schedules, and ensure production and shop-budget compliance with School Production Manager and production costume designer(s).
Attend production and other staff meetings, dress parade, and dress rehearsals to coordinate designer's final needs and supervise wardrobe crew.
