JOB OVERVIEW
Resident Education and Development is searching for an Area Coordinator. The live-on Area Coordinator assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of full-time master's level staff members and paraprofessional staff. Other duties include community development, student development, housing assignments, staff development, student conduct, crisis intervention, programming, hall government advisement, and summer programs. Responsible for the management, administration, services, and activities in a residential neighborhood. This is a required live on-campus position that includes the expectation of eating in our Dining Centers to promote community development for our staff and students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Responsible for the administrative duties of assigned residential areas. Oversee office operations, neighborhood programming budget, completes necessary paperwork, and work with the University Services Associates, Facilities & Maintenance staff, Housekeeping staff, Housing and Food Services, and University of Cincinnati Police Department to ensure safety and security within the designated area. *Work to ensure that all residents feel included and welcome by executing the residential curriculum for assigned neighborhood. Assist in the implementation of community, academic, and personal programs in collaboration with other Resident Education and Development staff and/or university departments. Facilitate an awareness and sensitivity in celebration of cultural diversity. *Ensure that students and staff with whom they interact are aware of departmental and university policies within all residential communities. *Serve on departmental committees. *Provide guidance and support to the advisors of hall government. Monitor and approve financial transactions to ensure funds are used properly. *Serve as the neighborhood's primary conduct officer, adjudicating cases and working in conjunction with the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. May assign relevant cases to other departmental staff, where they see fit. *Serve in campus-wide on-call duty rotation, providing crisis intervention as situations arise. Utilize on-campus resources to make appropriate referrals to students who need and/or require assistance. *Establish regular office hours within residential neighborhood. Maintain a high level of contact with residents and staff by walking the area on a regular basis. Actively participate in the Resident Education and Development strategic planning process, as a member of the RED Management Team. *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
*Three (3) years of experience in College Student Affairs, Higher Ed Administration or related area. *Previous supervisory experience. *Required to live on-campus.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
Master's degree and two (2) years of post-Master's residence life or equivalent functional area experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
*Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
