JOB OVERVIEW
The Radiation Safety Office in the Office of Research at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a Sr. Health Physics Technician. This position will perform LSC/GAMMA counter constancy checks, radioactive material room/lab surveys/commissioning/decommissioning, survey meter calibration, and respond to on-call incidents. Other valuable skills are good customer service, communication, computer experience (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel etc) and being comfortable with basic hand tools as well as being a team player. This position will be under general supervision from a designated administrator, perform complex health physics duties (both routine and non-routine) associated with the Radiation Safety Office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Perform all duties of the Staff Health Physics Technician 2. *Coordinate the radioactive waste management operations including, but not limited to: scheduling pickups; picking up waste from laboratories; processing, packaging, and disposing of waste in accordance with department procedures; maintaining records; and ensuring related surveys are performed as required. *Inspect and prepare radioactive materials for shipment or disposal. *Calibrate survey equipment and assist in the maintenance of other radiation safety equipment. *Check sealed radioactive sources for leakage; inventory sealed sources. *Instruct radiation safety personnel and others as necessary on radiation safety policies and practices. *Perform related duties based on departmental need.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree in Physical or Biological Science and three (3) years related experience; -OR- High school diploma and five (5) years related experience. Must successfully complete a departmentally administered examination. Must have acceptable driving record and able to obtain a valid HAZMAT Commercial Driver's License within three (3) months of employment. On-call rotation is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
*Must be able to demonstrate the ability to bend, reach, pull, push and lift up to 40 pounds without mechanical assistance.
