Developing a Novel Sensor Platform for Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis. An exciting opportunity to be part of an interdisciplinary team engaged in high impact research in early-stage cancer detection. Based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is a friendly, creative and inspiring place to study and covers the subject areas of civil and coastal engineering, computing, electrical and electronic engineering and robotics, mathematical sciences, mechanical, marine and materials engineering, and navigation and maritime science. With many internationally recognised experts, our teaching staff are passionate about providing an innovative and inspiring learning experience. The School hosts the Marine Building, home to the world-class Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport (COAST) Laboratory, amongst many other facilities. We have an extensive portfolio of research from offshore renewable energy, coastal engineering and robotics to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science. We are looking for a positive individual with knowledge of nanoscale devices and an interest in developing new biomedical technologies; someone who can work and think independently and who will interact effectively with colleagues and collaborators. You will: be responsible for the fabrication of biosensor devices, functionalisation for biomarker detection and evaluation of biosensor performance. communicate effectively with members of the research teams and other colleagues. build new links within the Early Detection and Diagnostics community. publish research outputs in high quality academic publications, present at national and international academic conferences, and engage in public engagement activities. You will have a PhD in Physics or a related area and be keen to work within an inter-disciplinary team encompassing the fields of applied physics, electronic engineering, machine learning, biomedical science and clinical medicine. It is essential that you have cleanroom experience; specifically thin film growth, photo lithography and nano device fabrication. Strengths in data analysis and presentation, project management and communication would be an advantage.
