The Director of International Student Services is a key role that oversees international student experiences and compliance from the time of application and admission, throughout the academic program, and during the OPT period after degree completion. The Director serves as the University's Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and supervises all official F-1 student processes and documentation with the University and the government. In addition, the Director supervises staff, Graduate Assistants and Student workers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set the overall vision and structure for International Student Services, involving all stages of the student experience from recruitment to admitted to current student to alumni. The Director oversees policies, processes and work flows in this key area of growth at the university and is responsible for compliance with Federal regulations regarding international student visa status, and, as such, serves as Seton Hall's PDSO for F-1 visa matters. In addition, the Director would serve as an ARO for J-1 visa matters and also support exchange student and study abroad programs as needed.
- This position represents international student services both externally and within the University community, serves as the principal liaison to key international student constituencies and maintains a professional presence in local, national and international affiliated associations and organizations, such as NAFSA.
- Oversee institutional SEVIS compliance in the roles of PDSO and RO, including filing for periodic recertification (F-1) and re-designation (J-1). In close coordination with other DSO’s, oversee issuance of Forms I-20. Serve as primary point of contact with SEVIS on all compliance related issues. Oversee maintenance of data and reporting of international students. Oversee advisement of F-1/J-1 students and referring students to University resources as needed. Serve as liaison with Career Services to coordinate information sharing related to work authorization for current students (CPT) and recent alumni (OPT).
- Oversee hiring processes and training for full time, part time, GA and work study employees. Serve as liaison to Advancement on donor relationships, international student scholarships and other funding initiatives in the area. Alongside the Assistant Director of Study Abroad, oversee MOU/Exchange agreements with international partners in close collaboration with Academic Affairs.
- Plans and guides implementation of international student programming and activities on campus, including info sessions, orientations, advising sessions and related activities. Supports Graduate Affairs group and Admissions with international student admission policies and processes, recruitment, partnership building and other related programming. Collaborates with student organizations on campus such as the International Student Association to support those student populations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree, field of study: open
- 3-5 years relevant work experience
- Knowledge of F-1 student policies, regulations, procedures and compliance is essential for accurate maintenance of records and reporting to government
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Knowledge of University systems, SEVIS system and Terra Dotta
