The
College of Humanities and Sciences (H&S)
invites applications for a
Temporary Media Information Specialist
to join their team. The employee assigned to this position will oversee marketing and program coordination for the University of Montana (UM) Humanities Institute (HI), and will also assist faculty across the College of Humanities and Sciences and beyond in organizing programming (including through the University's NEH grant to support the humanities). The person in this role will also oversee marketing of the events and opportunities provided through the HI, in support of the NEH grant, and in support of the humanities more broadly across campus, in Missoula, throughout Montana, and nationally.
Essential duties and responsibilities assigned to this position include:
• External promotion of the HI to the community/MT/US of the Humanities Institute (HI)
• Internal promotion of the HI to the UM campus community
• Advertise and market events and opportunities
• Coordinate programming within the HI and with our campus and community partners
• Coordinate programming specifically to the NEH grant with the departments of English, NAS, Anthropology, and History
• Supervise HI interns in marketing
• Work with the HI interns on marketing, programming, and web design
• Use social media, Eventbrite, PDF makers, Zoom, traditional media, etc. to promote events
• Advise on campus and community partnerships
• Develop outreach initiatives to further involve faculty, students, and staff with the HI
• Grant writing for continued employment beyond the NEH grant
After a reasonable training period, the incumbent will able to proficiently perform the following responsibilities:
• An understanding of how various UM departments, colleges, and organizations operate
• An understanding of federal grants, including NEH grants
• The ability to promote events through specific platforms such as Eventbrite
• Knowledge of design software such as Canva, CC Express, etc.
• Ability to do basic web editing in Cascade for the HI’s website
• Familiarity with GrizHub, UM’s interactive online calendar
• Ability to work closely with UM’s marketing and communications team to promote events and opportunities
Required Skills
• Experience in organizing and managing events and their logistics
• Experience in marketing events and opportunities across multiple platforms
• Experience in organizing events online and in person as well as hybrid events
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Excellent public speaking skills
• Ability to work independently and with team members
• Understanding of digital media and communication platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Mailchimp, Zoom, etc.
• An appreciation of the humanities and related fields
• Ability to represent UM and the humanities to varied and diverse groups
Minimum Required Experience
• Bachelor of Arts degree in a humanities or humanities-related field as well as three (3) years of experience in marketing and event planning or related fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in higher education and/or non-profit work.
• Academic or applied experience in a humanities-related field.
• Demonstrates advanced diplomacy and an understanding of the importance of relationships when working with diverse internal and external customers.
• Uses strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, along with negotiating and consensus building, to communicate effectively.
• Applies solid analytical and problem-solving experience along with skills to recognize and resolve difficult and complex situations.
