Experiential Learning and Career Success (ELCS)
invites applications for a
Career Outreach and Events Manager
to oversee and grow UM’s employer outreach and events programming in support of student career readiness. This individual will be under the direction of the Associate Director of Experiential Learning. Duties for this position include strategizing, organizing, and facilitating on-campus and virtual recruiting activities and events including employment/experiential learning fairs and on-campus employer visits and interviews. Someone who likes to network and is interested in building and strengthening the UM community through UM-Missoula Business Partnerships would be an ideal fit for this position. This position is also responsible for the growth, management and budget of the Job Location Development Program, a federally funded program that aides currently enrolled students in locating off-campus, part-time, temporary, and seasonal job opportunities regardless of financial need; as well as overseeing the platform Handshake. This Career Outreach and Events Manager will also supervise a student worker who will support this position. This individual will coordinate employer events, recruitment and outreach by doing the following:
Planning, managing, and promoting employment/experiential fairs in collaboration with the ELCS team.
Assisting employers with job/internship posting descriptions, fair/event registration and creating and managing their employer platform account in Handshake.
Collaborating with the Career Success Team to engage employers in career education workshops and panels.
Pursuing employer sponsorships of fairs, awards, and other events.
Providing excellent customer service in working with a wide array of business leaders, UMT staff and other community members.
Collaborating with academic departments to develop and offer employment fairs specific to their needs.
Promoting career events, tools, and opportunities to students and faculty.
This individual will also manage the job location development program by:
Managing and expanding the reach of the JLD program and oversee its administration in accordance with State and Federal Grant Guidelines.
Identifying and soliciting part-time, seasonal, and temporary job openings from Missoula and surrounding areas.
Serving as the liaison between the University of Montana and community businesses interested in part-time student employees.
Offering informational classroom and other programming to educate students, organizations, and employers about the JLD Program.
Supporting and advising UM students seeking part-time positions.
This employee will also oversee the operations and processes of UM’s Handshake platform by:
Providing technical education and assistance to employers, students/alumni, faculty, and staff in their use of Handshake.
Developing, enhancing and/or maintaining processes to ensure data integrity, usefulness, and relevancy.
Approving/overseeing new employer postings, employer contacts, and all new opportunities (i.e., jobs, internships, volunteer, etc.).
Producing routine reports for students, alumni, employers, staff, faculty, and departments.
Acting as a liaison with Handshake tech support for questions, improvements, and enhancements for databases.
This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of how the Job Location and Development program works through Financial Aid and will develop an understanding of how to grow this program to better support students and local employers. This individual will also develop a working knowledge of university and federal recruiting/employment regulations.

Minimum Required Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and at least two (2) years’ experience in this or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in establishing and growing a new program.
Ability to work with employers to create and grow JLD opportunities for UM students.
Knowledge of how the Job Location and Development program works through Financial Aid.
