JOB OVERVIEW

The Department of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will begin August 1, 2022, and a PhD in Sociology by July 31, 2022 is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a primary scholarly focus on race and ethnicity or gender or sexuality. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential for becoming leading scholars, generating external research funding, and achieving excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected.

 

Located in the heart of Cincinnati, a beautiful river city that combines the amenities of a major metropolis with a small-town cost of living, UC is a diverse public university with a total enrollment of 47,000 students and a Carnegie classification of R1 doctoral, very high research activity. Sociology is a PhD-granting department with about 150 majors and minors and 40 active PhD students, about two-thirds of whom are U.S.-born students of color or international students. The department houses the endowed Kunz Center for Social Research, which supports faculty and graduate student research. Sociology is also one of 15 units affiliated with the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center, which disburses over two million dollars per year in research and travel grants to faculty and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position will carry a 2/2 teaching load.  Courses may be taught online or face-to-face, depending on departmental needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

*Must have obtained a PhD in Sociology or a closely related field prior to the effective date of the appointment. *Must have high proficiency in written and spoken English
