Profile

The Department of Engineering Education (DEE) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at all ranks. Candidates will be expected to conduct research in one or more of the following research areas: (1) engineering epistemologies, (2) engineering learning mechanism, (3) engineering learning systems, (4) engineering diversity and inclusiveness, and (5) engineering assessment. Commensurate with rank, faculty will be expected to: develop (or advance) a nationally/internationally recognized, externally-funded research program in engineering education; advise graduate students; teach graduate and undergraduate courses in engineering education (including but not limited to first-year engineering courses); perform service at the Department, College, University, and professional societies levels; nurture collaborations across the college and campus; and work to achieve departmental, college, and university strategic goals. The Department is charged with developing and sustaining premier research programs and with preparing students to become high-performing professionals in the workplace. Faculty will be expected to further these goals by collegial collaboration and teamwork both within the Department of Engineering Education and with other CEAS departments and other UC Colleges.

The Department of Engineering Education was created in 2007 with the goals of delivering the highest quality teaching and learning experience for the CEAS students, as well as advancing the scholarship of teaching and learning through a rigorous research enterprise. The department provides undergraduate students with tutoring, mentoring, advising and other support services, as well as valuable research opportunities. Graduate students learn about conducting fundamental research on engineering learning and bridging research and practice by defining effective practices, identifying the reasons why they work, developing curricula, assessing how students learn, and moving those findings into future engineering classrooms. Faculty in the department teach fundamental courses in undergraduate engineering, as well as graduate courses in the discipline of engineering education. The CEAS is the birthplace of the cooperative education (co-op) program and still holds the largest public mandatory cooperative education program at a public university in the United States. The CEAS total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 6,200 students.

Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent in Engineering Education or a related discipline prior to the effective date of appointment and demonstrate excellent potential to build an independent research program at the forefront of their field (evidenced by grantsmanship and/or published refereed journal/conference papers, commensurate with rank), as well as potential to educate and mentor students (evidenced by prior experience in supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students, commensurate with rank).
