Vice Provost for Student Success Administration

invites applications for a new

Director of the Student Advocacy Resource Center

(SARC). This position directs all the services that SARC provides to the University community. This includes counseling and advocacy services to students who identify discrimination and/or interpersonal trauma that impact their academic success. The director is also responsible for the supervision of the SARC outreach services to the campus community. Responsibilities also include coordinating the campus community’s response to sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, stalking, and intimate partner violence of students through programming, participation on University committees, and through partnering with the Director of Equity, Empowerment and Prevention (DEEP), the Director of Inclusive Excellence for Student Success (IESS), the Director of the Equal Opportunity/Title IX Office (EO/Title IX), as well as other campus partners. This position also includes coordination of direct advocacy services, in-person and telehealth response to student’s emergent mental health needs during office hours and on-call after hours, including crisis services at the First Step program at St. Patrick’s Hospital with the YWCA. The components of these responsibilities are outlined below. This line reports to the Vice Provost for Student Success.

This position has primary responsibility of managing SARC. This is a leadership position with considerable complexity, including all aspects of personnel management, budget preparation, long-range planning, managing delivery of advocacy and counseling services, identification and trouble-shooting of legal components and complaints, participation on campus committees, involvement in campus prevention, direction of outreach programs, consultation to staff development, and collaboration with the DEEP, the Director of IESS, and the Director of EO/Title IX on training and quality improvement efforts.

This position operates with considerable independence in providing oversight for advocacy services for those clients who have experienced discrimination based upon sexual misconduct and other identity-based harm. This position requires a considerable degree of initiative and coordination across campus and community agencies.

The SARC Director regularly interfaces with key campus departments, including leadership in Student Success, Title IX, Office of Community Standards, Inclusive Excellence, Equity, Empowerment and Prevention, faculty, Athletics, Administration, Clery and University of Montana Police, and has frequent contact with University legal counsel, parents, andconcerned others. This position provides consultative services to the broader campus community related to sexual misconduct prevention and assisting students who are victims and survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence and misconduct, working to build a culture of respect at UM through systemic change. As such, the SARC Director is a member of the PEACE committee and the Bias Response Team. The director works closely with the Director of University Housing, the Director of Inclusive Excellence and others to ensure support of students and employees in these issues. Coordination with relevant community agencies is also expected as a component of addressing campus violence (First Step, Missoula Police Department, Sheriff’s, Crime Victim’s Advocate office, YWCA Missoula and other coordinating agencies).

The SARC Director has primary authority in supervising all SARC workers, administrative personnel, graduate interns, AmeriCorp students, and student volunteers who work as advocates for those affected by sexual misconduct and discrimination. This position establishes performance standards, scope of practice, and employment related issues.

Position Details

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program

Salary for this position is $71,000 - $75,000 per year commensurate with qualifications

Minimum Requirements

2 years of demonstrated managerial experience and

at least 2 years experience working with victims and survivors of sexual misconduct in a program setting

Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to demonstrate successful supervisory skills.

Ability to demonstrate budgeting skills including a working knowledge of Excel

Ability to demonstrate Must have demonstrated time management skills and ability to establish department priorities and multi-year strategic planning.

Must have familiarity with national and college campus prevention of relationship violence, including issues related to specific constituent

Must represent SARC and the University in a positive manner.

Must understand HIPAA, FERPA rules as well as Montana State Law in regard to advocacy

Working knowledge of advocacy model

Experience in a fields such as community/public health, social work, psychology or related field. Knowledge of trauma-informed care and coordinated campus response to discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, stalking and intimate partner violence.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of University of Montana personnel and payroll policies

Working knowledge of SARC Policies

Experienced in grant-writing, grant management and fundraising
