Description:
This is an exciting chance to be part of a progressive and cutting-edge University in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference. The University of Plymouth is a great place to work, with excellent opportunities for career development and progression for staff, as well as striving to put students at the heart of everything we do. Our Student Services department provides support, advice and guidance to our student population to enable them to flourish and succeed during their time at University and beyond. Our services include mental health and wellbeing services, support for those with a health condition, impairment or disability, faith and spiritual support, bursaries and hardship funds, enhancing the international student experience and student disciplinary and conduct matters. The success of our students with health conditions, impairments or disabilities is particularly important to us, and we are committed to continually improving the experience for such individuals. This is an exciting new role for our department, providing dedicated support to our international student cohort, ensuring they receive a warm welcome to the University and the city of Plymouth. You will design and implement a programme of events and initiatives that help international students build a sense of community and belonging during their time here. You will also play a key part in the wider planning for welcome and arrivals at the start of each new academic year, ensuring all students receive the support they need. You will also line manage the International Student Experience and Welcome Coordinator, which is another new role for our department. The role will involve charing the International Student Experience Group, bringing colleagues together from across the Unviversity to discuss emerging themes, challenges and opportunities that face our international cohort and utlising the skills across the institution to deliver initiatives and events. You may not have worked in higher education before, but will ideally have a good understanding of student support needs and in equality, diversity and inclusion overall. You'll be an excellent team player with good verbal and communication skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders. You will be well organised and can plan, organise, prioritise and manage workload. It is a busy team, so adapting to a changing environment and flexibility is key, in addition to working under pressure. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.
