Profile

Description:

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship commencing as soon as possible to work on the Commissioning, Co-commissioning and Being Commissioned; the NHS and Third Sector Organisations project at the University of Plymouth until November 2022. This project is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR 128107). The project study addresses four main questions: How do healthcare commissioners address the task of commissioning voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSE) as service providers, and what barriers do they face? What are the consequences for VCSEs, of the public bodies commissioning services from them? How are VCSEs involved in CCG, local authority and other (e.g. ACS, NHS England) commissioning decisions? What absorptive capacities do healthcare commissioners and VCSEs respectively need for enabling VSCEs to be commissioned, and for co-commissioning? You will require up-do-date knowledge of health policy and the health and social care system in England. Besides the usual activities of a research fellow, your main roles will involve fieldwork and collaboration with Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSE). Collaborating with researchers at the University of Birmingham and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, in particular a second post-doctoral research fellow at Birmingham, you will be responsible for organising and undertaking fieldwork, including some elements of action learning, at up to eight study sites across England. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Professor Rod Sheaff by email rod.sheaff@plymouth.ac.uk or by telephone on 44(0)1579 345674. This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 28th February 2023 due to the nature of the funding. Start date Monday 31st January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. Flexible working options including job share will be considered.
