Description:
King University in Bristol, TN seeks a Dean of the School of Nursing beginning January 2022. King University is a small private liberal arts university located in the heart of the southern Appalachian Mountains, set against a backdrop of stunning mountains and nearby picturesque rivers and lakes. The region is home to thriving small cities, and offers the ideal venue for recreational, educational, social and cultural opportunities. King is minutes away from nationally acclaimed hiking, canoeing, snow skiing, water skiing, white water rafting, the Home of the Country Music Museum, the Appalachian Trail, NASCAR racing, and the International Storytelling Center. The School of Nursing includes three established and fully accredited program: BSN, MSN, and DNP. The BSN program includes a traditional and a degree-completion track; the MSN program includes Nursing Administration Nursing Education; and three population-specific areas within the APRN track: Family Nursing Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The DNP program is offered in systems and executive leadership, and is a post-master’s program. The School of Nursing currently enrolls almost 400 students in all programs and anticipates future growth to meet regional healthcare workforce needs. The School of Nursing has excelled in NCLEX and certification board passing rates, and in accreditation outcomes, having completed the most recent CCNE onsite survey in 2020 with no compliance concerns.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with an earned doctoral degree, PhD, DNP or EdD. Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in TN. Experience in nursing/clinical and/or academic leadership is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Reporting to the Provost and working cooperatively with deans across the university, the School of Nursing Dean will be a progressive leader, knowledgeable across the range of nursing program levels, with a vision for growth and accountability aligned with evolving needs of the healthcare workforce and progressing principles of nursing higher education.
Responsibilities:
The dean is responsible for nurturing King’s broad network of external partnerships with healthcare providers who are sources of clinical placements, strategic information, and program support. The successful candidate must demonstrate a track record of effective communication and advocacy, an ability to translate vision into strategy, promote excellence in programs, and lead pedagogies and policies that will ensure student progress. Additionally, the candidate must exhibit ability to support faculty for professional growth and teaching expertise in online and classroom environments, clinical and lab settings, and in the use of emerging technologies.
