Description:

The Department of the Built Environment is inviting applications for the post of Lecturer Building Engineering, on a full-time basis. We are looking for inspiring and enthusiastic academics to make a key contribution through teaching, research and enterprise to our academic provision of undergraduate courses in the building engineering discipline, such as in Construction Project Management, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, and Architectural Engineering, as well as the postgraduate course in Built Environment. Based within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, the School of Art, Design and Architecture (ADA) offers high quality, student-centred degrees, postgraduate programmes and research opportunities relevant to today’s cultural, creative, architectural and design-related industries.The School has a growing international profile, with collaborations across the Far East, South America and Europe.Students learn from experienced practitioners who are experts in their field and join an intellectually stretching multidisciplinary learning community. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. You will be expected to lead and teach in core areas within Building Engineering, such as building services engineering, building physics, low carbon building, building technology and MMC. You will have a doctorate degree or equivalent and a scholarly reputation, demonstrated by an excellent record of high-quality journal publications in the field. You will be expected to contribute to the Department’s next REF submission. Previous experience in winning external funding in the built environment field and a track record of working with industry through research or other partnerships will be highly valued. A professional qualification (from RICS, CIOB or similar) or eligibility to gain it would be desirable. In addition, you will contribute to the broader academic work of the Built Environment Department including recruitment, course development and student mentoring initiatives.
