The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.s Information School is seeking an Senior Informatics Academic Advisor to work with other Informatics staff and the Informatics Program Chair in all areas to support and develop the Bachelor of Science in Informatics (INFO) degree and minor programs, which includes promotion, recruitment, event planning, records management, academic advising, communications, and student services.
Additionally, this position works closely with the Student Services staff to provide support for Information School's joint activities such as the iSchool Welcome, Study Breaks, Convocation and the iSchool Career Fair, as well as assists with supporting the other iSchool degree programs (i.e., Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) and PhD in Information Science). The Academic Advisor works closely with the Program Chair, Informatics staff, iSchool faculty and students, UW departments, employers, and community partners in facilitation of the INFO program goals. The Senior Academic Advisor for the INFO program is expected to meet with executive level individuals both internally and externally.


In the iSchool there is an expectation that all faculty and staff will step up where they see an opportunity to apply their special expertise or talents, speak up when they identify opportunities or concerns, and lead by taking actions that exemplify the iSchools core values.  Leadership within the iSchool is expressed in diverse ways reflecting the variety of styles and cultures that are represented by our faculty and staff.


What youll be doing:
Provide academic advising and support for the Informatics program. Provide general support for programs and activities in the Office of Student Services.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Academic Advising and Program Management
Provide academic advising to current and prospective Informatics students including advising on major options, requirements, transfer, admissions, career choices, financial resources, and university policies and procedure.

Support iSchool Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives including providing support to diverse student and prospective student populations.

Counsel students with academic, financial, and personal difficulty. Refer students as necessary to appropriate campus or community resources.

Advise students on procedures in matters of misconduct. As requested, consult with the Director for Student Services, the Associate Dean of Academics and faculty to escalate or resolve matters of student misconduct. Participate in student conduct proceedings, if requested.

Manage student employees working as Informatics Peer Advisors including selection, training, and supervision. Provide on-going evaluation of the peer advisor program.

Oversee iSchool Informatics scholarship selection process in coordination with Program Chair, iSchool Advancement and Director for Student Services.

Take lead in monitoring UW and iSchool satisfactory progress (continuation) policy and prepare documents for probationary action by Associate Dean for Academics when necessary.

Facilitate paperwork for INFO students including independent study, curricular practical training (CPT), change of major, curriculum waivers, and graduation applications.  Resolve routine requests as needed.  Consult with INFO Program Chair and Associate Dean for Academics as appropriate.

Other duties as assigned in consultation with the Director for Student Services and INFO Program Chair.


Recruiting and Admissions for Informatics Degree and Minor
Collaborate with Information School Associate Director for Admissions, INFO Program Chair and Informatics staff to recruit prospective students, including coordinating and participating in information sessions, recruiting fairs, web chats, etc.

Advise prospective students on the program, the discipline, and the application process.

Support recruitment and outreach activities as requested.

Collaborate with academic units across the UW to promote informatics such as Robinson Center, Honors Program and Office of Minority and Diversity (OMAD).

Serve as primary liaison to professional organizations related to Informatics.

Participate on the INFO Admissions Committee.

Assist with iSchool Graduate Program recruitment activities as requested.


Event Planning
Plan information sessions, workshops, or other events to support the needs of Informatics students and minors.

Lead or assist in planning Student Services activities including Open Houses, all iSchool Welcome, iWelcome Week, iSchool Career Fair, Study Breaks, Student Leadership Retreat and Convocation.

Coordinate with Career Services staff in promoting career development workshops, employer sessions, and internship opportunities.

Collaborate with Informatics staff to schedule and facilitate INFO new student orientations. Participate in UW summer orientation programs.


Communication and Information Dissemination
Serve on the INFO Program Committee.

Act as Informatics liaison with the iSchool Academic Services team in planning course schedules and updating curriculum changes.

Disseminate information via various communications channels (i.e., email, social media, canvas) to INFO students, as well as contribute to the other Student Services communication efforts.

Help maintain accurate information for the INFO web pages.

Update iSchool faculty, staff and students on University and School policies and regulations as needed.

Make recommendations to the Director for Student Services and the Director for Communications for new publication projects that benefit the INFO program.

Participate in School and University-wide committees as appropriate.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in informatics, Communication, Social Science, Education, Information Science, or related field.

Minimum two years of experience in student advising or teaching, or equivalent education/experience.

Experience in program planning and management, preferably in student services.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including SharePoint and Bookings.

Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.

Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and to lead others.

Excellent communications skills with both the ability to be articulate and present well in writing, verbally, and via technology.


DESIRED EXPERIENCE
Advanced degree in Higher Education Administration, Information Management, or related field.

Experience using UW systems such as Electronic Advising Records System (EARS) / Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) and Keynes Student Database (SDB).

Familiarity with UW policies and procedures.

Familiarity with Canvas or equivalent learning management systems.

Familiarity with UW undergraduate policies and procedures.

Familiarity with video/web conferencing technology such as Zoom, Adobe Connect or Skype for Business.
