College of Education’s Department of Teaching & Learning
invites applications for an
Advisor II
to provide comprehensive academic advising and program guidance to support the academic success of undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students, along with a variety of related duties as described below. This position serves under the immediate supervision of the Teaching & Learning (T&L) Department Chair.
Duties include:
Serve as the academic advisor for graduate students and students’ secondary education state teaching licensure from the point of inquiry, entry into the program, through program completion.
Manage graduate admissions in coordination with the T&L Graduate Coordinator and Graduate School.
Assist student employees in TES front desk coverage as assigned/needed.
Respond to telephone, email, and in-person inquiries concerning licensure requirements (entails staying up to date with most current practices and consulting with the Licensure Specialist), secondary education, endorsements, field experiences, and graduate programs in a timely manner. Monitors T&L and advising email accounts (two accounts total).
Represent T&L Department and assist with recruitment and retention activities at such events as UM Days, Transfer Days, and meetings with prospective parents and students.
Work collaboratively with UM recruitment, orientation, and retention offices.
Establish professional relationships with departmental faculty and primary advisors in the Colleges of Education, Humanities and Sciences, Forestry and Conservation, and Arts and Media to better serve students seeking secondary education licensure.
Evaluate transcripts to help plan programs of study for students in coordination with their assigned faculty advisors and primary advisors in the content areas.
Work with the Department Chair, Elementary Education Advisor, and Graduate Coordinator to share information and develop advising materials and update program content on the website.
Solicit, develop content, and produce the weekly newsletter “Tidbits” for TES community (current students, faculty, administration, and staff). This newsletter contains advising information and related items of interest.
Create projects in line with T&L mission statement and initiatives issued by administration, including compiling data and completing reports.
Assist with processing the Secondary Education Teacher Education Program applications, as well as endorsement applications.
Works with Elementary Education Advisor in Teacher Education Program course registration, group advising and application workshops.
Other duties as assigned.
This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of University of Montana systems such as Banner, Navigate, DegreeWorks, and InfoGriz.
Required Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of FERPA compliance laws.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities throughout the academic and calendar year.

Ability to work efficiently and independently to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a work environment with frequent interruptions.

Minimum Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to education, and at least two (2) years’ experience in related work, or any combination of education and experience that would allow for successful completion of job duties
