Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Memory Neuroscience Laboratory, directed by Dr. Hadley Bergstrom, at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. seeks a Laboratory Research Technician. The Memory Neuroscience Lab focuses on the mechanisms of emotional learning and memory using behavioral neuroscience techniques. The Research Assistant will work alongside Dr. Bergstrom, and a team of undergraduate students, to perform independent research experiments, help student researchers with their experiments, and perform general lab organization/maintenance duties. The successful candidate will be able to multi-task, pay close attention-to-detail, and exhibit an eagerness to learn. A bachelor's degree in neuroscience or a related field (i.e., biology, psychology) or prior experience in a research environment (or related position) is required. Recent graduates with some lab experience (i.e., in a course) may also be considered. This is a two-year, full-time, grant-funded position with an anticipated start date of June 1, 2022. This position would be ideal for a recent graduate who wishes to gain hands-on experiences in behavioral neuroscience research.
Responsibilities: Perform experiments in mice, including genotyping (PCR), various behavioral assays, stereotaxic surgery for chemogenetic manipulations, in vivo calcium imaging, immunohistochemistry, and confocal imaging.
Perform basic lab maintenance/organization duties including purchasing supplies, maintaining inventories, and cleaning and organizing general lab space.
Analyze and organize acquired data.
Ensure that safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
Be willing to train/supervise undergraduate student trainees.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in related scientific field.
A minimum of one year of research experience is required. While not required for consideration, any of the following skills/competencies will be viewed favorably: experience handling mice, knowledge of behavioral assays in mice, statistical analysis, PCR, immunohistochemistry, stereotaxic surgery, IP injections, pharmacology.
Attention to detail, ability to record and manage data files, and ability to coordinate multiple assignments on a day-to-day basis would be a plus.
A two-year commitment strongly preferred.
