JOB OVERVIEW
The Carl H. Lindner College of Business is seeking qualified applicants to join our expanding graduate degree programs advising and student services team. Working with the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs and with colleagues in the Student Services Unit, the Assistant Director of Advising (ADA) is responsible for monitoring student's progress, providing guidance in determining students' interests and objectives, and helping students to locate and navigate the resources they need to successfully complete their degree programs.
The duties of the ADA will consist of three core responsibilities. Each ADA will be able to advise a student from any degree or certificate program regardless of modality of offering. The physical and electronic processing of paperwork will be performed by the Student Services Unit. Each ADA will have the primary responsibility for developing community and extracurricular activities for specific groups of students (ie, ASCEND and 3+1; NMATS; PhD; MBA). The Advisor executes events and programs to foster community throughout the program. Each ADA will establish credentials and oversight of an area(s) of interest such as hosting campus visits in collaboration with recruiting team, or health and wellness activities or 3MT competitions, or DEI programs and activities. These projects can be external to the College and/or University.
This position has the opportunity for a hybrid schedule.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Assist with the direction of an advising center or office with primary responsibilities for select day to day operations and administrative management in which decisions and quality of execution have significant impact on internal and external relations. *Develop long-range plans and strategies to achieve unit, department, and university goals for areas of responsibility. Monitor and achieve established goals. *Recommend, implement, and interpret internal rules, policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to advance service levels. Develop and implement responsive service programs. *May advise a limited caseload of current and prospective students about how to meet their educational, professional, and personal goals. *Attend meetings on behalf of the director; consults with director on major policy changes affecting other departments; authority to grant exceptions. May function as the Director in his/her absence, as required. *Assist with administrative leadership of exempt and non-exempt staff. Orient, train, and mentor staff; monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs. *Compile data required for internal and external reports and assessments; interpret and disseminate information, provide advice, assist in development of advising materials, deliver presentations, ensure that advising programs and services comply with university, state, and federal regulations. *Maintain collaborative relationships with departments/units regarding advising efforts that enrich the student experience. Serve as liaison to the registrar's office, admissions, or other enrollment functions. *Maintain and stay abreast of trends in advising, advising technologies, and changes in academic programs and transition requirements. Assist with program recommendation, communication, and technology training/implementation. *Serve on various university, division, and departmental committees. Represent the department at various state and national associations. *Facilitate equity and inclusion strategies for the advising unit. *May teach one or more college level courses. *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Master's Degree
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of academic advising or student success experience.
