Job Profile Summary:
The Director of Student Success Operations is an innovative and visionary business leader committed to excellence in employee and student success and is accountable and responsible for the foundational infrastructure that will facilitate and optimize the ability for the Student Success Community of Care and cross-functional stakeholders to serve students and employees at their best, one-by-one, in an environment that is a Great Place to Work. The Director has budgetary and direct line responsibility (~24 employees) and is a key leader of influence within the student success organization (1,900 employees), college faculty teams (2,500 employees) and stakeholders and collaborative partners throughout the university system.

The Director is responsible for managing resources, developing and implementing an operational plan, and ensuring that procedures are carried out effectively.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
List of significant responsibilities and essential duties that must be completed in order to achieve the objectives of the position
Fosters and implements a shared vision for the Student Success department aligned with the core mission and cultural beliefs of the university and inspires pursuit of that vision
Leads operational functions including, but not limited to, workplace excellence (GPTW), vendor management, initiative management, service level management, incident management, business continuity, financial oversight and administration
Develops, implements, and refines operations strategy, structure, and processes in collaboration with department, practice and college leaders
Works collaboratively with the practices, colleges and institutional support departments to define and align around service level agreements to improve student outcomes and experience, with an eye towards quality, cost and scalability
Collaborates with department, practice and college leadership to develop strategies for improving operational efficiencies and advancing student and employee success outcomes, maintaining a working knowledge of all phases of operations
Champions consistency within department administration functions to serve the student success organization and cross-functional colleagues according to service-level agreements
Develops and administers budgets and is an effective champion for the fiscal needs of the practice and colleges while maintaining P&L sustainability through innovation and creativity
Optimizes opportunities and fosters a culture of thought leadership to advance the WGU and Student Success brand, internally and externally
Uses data and data analytics to inform decision-making to support forecasting, portfolio management, and financial management.
Defines practice specific policies and plans and manages governance strategies and mechanisms for employee operations
Engages with peers, contributors, team members, other leaders and all members of the WGU enterprise openly, and transparently to build and inspire trust and establish collaborative relationships
Communicates organizational goals, directions, and potential impacts of decisions and policies clearly and concisely
Interviews, hires, trains, and develops the operations management team
Participates as a member of the university, academic and department leadership teams, including working groups as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsible for compiling data to produce a budget or a portion of a budget for a department or job area.

Responsible for making significant improvements to processes, programs, and systems to enhance the outcomes of the division or job area.
May create and direct policy decisions within scope of responsibility. Accountable for coordinating activities and maintaining relationships with external parties as needed.
Problems faced are numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis, and prior experience. Solutions to problems typically affect multiple departments.
Communication & Influence:
Represents the division or job area as the primary internal contact for operations.
Influences others to accept the division or job area's views, practices, concepts, and approaches. Interacts with equivalent level management concerning matters of significance to the University.
Conducts briefings with senior leadership to gain approval.
Leadership & Talent Management
Manages teams of managers and professionals. Responsible for creating workforce and staffing plans for area. Directly oversees hiring, firing, promotion, performance management, employee training, and other personnel decisions of significance within the division or job area.
May spend time as completing functional tasks, but primarily achieves goals through leading a team.
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent.
10 years specific experience which generally includes a minimum of 5-7 years leading a team
Department Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree or other advanced degree
10 of experience in operations management
Proven track record of implementing data-driven innovation & organizational change
7 of significant people leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience with competency-based education
Experience and/or demonstrated interest in underserved populations
Physical Requirements:
Travel may be expected at least monthly as the position networks toward innovation and thought leadership. Weekend and evening work may be required.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
