General Description of Position:
Responsible for working with a subset of students at risk of not graduating high school. This will include but is not limited to working with school administrators and officials, parents, volunteer mentors and tutors, and especially students in group or one-on-one settings; coaching students individually as need is demonstrated; holding meetings with parents and/or guardian.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Meet with students 1:1 to review progress on and/or amend education and career plans;
2. Review student files and records and school data to determine level of intervention needed;
3. Work with students and parents to sign students up for iGrad program;
4. Work with students to develop education and career plans;
5. Work with students facing life crises to intervene in positive ways to assist student to remain in school;
6. Document, communicate, and adjust intervention strategies, as needed;
7. Provide guidance to mentors and tutors on how to relate to students facing challenging life circumstances;
8. Work with students in academic distress and if necessary, find a tutor to provide assistance;
9. Work in conjunction with school administrators in cases where students face disciplinary consequences or other negative consequences;
10. Assist with event based programming for students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree. Applicant must have at least 3 years of on ground experience in public school education, social work, counseling, psychology, criminal or juvenile justice, or related field.
A bachelor's degree in public school education, social work, counseling, psychology, or criminal justice. At least 3 years' experience working with at risk youth and/or teen-aged youth a plus.
Other Requirements:
1. Must be persistent, positive, and be able to work with families using a non-blaming approach, advocate for students;
2. Must be able to work comfortably with a wide range and variety of people;
3. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of youth, including diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic populations.
4. Extremely high level of interpersonal and communication skills and emotional maturity a must.
5. Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and capacity to successfully handle multiple tasks at the same time.
Work Hours:
20-28 hours per week; Work will be performed mostly during public school hours; attendance at some evening meetings might be required. This is a year-round position, though work will be scheduled during the summer months (June and July) only as necessary.
Hiring Range:
$17/hour
