Profile

Description:
University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School is seeking practising doctors who are passionate about medical education and interested in facilitating Enquiry Based Learning (EBL) within the School. Small group learning is a key component of the undergraduate medical course at the Peninsula Medical School where active, collaborative, reflective, student-centred learning is fundamental. Small Group Facilitators play a vital role in these groups, facilitating and managing the process of learning, using their expertise to probe and stimulate reasoning and problem solving and to support students to activate their existing knowledge and to integrate and apply new learning. This role will require providing facilitation of small group learning in EBL Groups where students use cases to explore the wider aspects of their learning and transfer knowledge to patients and clinical scenarios. We are seeking 2 to 3 facilitators for Year 2 student groups starting from January 2022. You will be expected to facilitate 2 groups on Mondays 12.30 - 5pm weekly and Wednesday 9am-1pm alternate weeks (please see below for actual timetabled dates). Remuneration is paid at a rate of 3 hours per 2 hour session (to include assessment feedback). There may also be limited opportunities for Jigsaw / Small Group Facilitators. Please contact Dr Rachel Leyland for specific timings and indicate that this is your particular interest in the personal statement on the application form. You should be medically qualified, GMC registered and currently practising in the South West locality. You will have an interest in medical education and be prepared to contribute to assessment, curriculum development and quality assurance as appropriate. An interest in education and experience of teaching are essential. Previous experience of small group facilitation is desirable. Induction and annual in-service training will be provided. Provisional interview dates: Wednesday 17 November 2021 and Wednesday 24 November 2021 (9 am – 2 pm). Interviews will either take place via Zoom or, circumstances permitting, at the Medical School in Plymouth. If applying please be available for both dates. For informal enquiries, please contact Kerry Gilbert **** (Enquiry Based learning) or Rachel Leyland **** (Jigsaw and Small Groups). What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
