Profile

The Director of Financial Aid Services serves as the college's chief Title IV officer, administering all federal Title IV and state financial aid and ensuring the college is compliant with all federal and state regulations, and institutional policies and procedures related to financial aid, scholarships, loans and federal and institutional work study. The director is responsible for strategic planning, budget development, management, hiring and performance evaluation, and outcomes assessment processes related to the Financial Aid Services unit. Administers all aspects of the college's state and federal financial aid services and most aspects of state, institutional, and HCC Educational Foundation scholarships, including oversight of approximately seven million dollars in funds as well as the FAS operating budget. Responsible for technology implementations and enhancements related to Financial Aid Services, including the student information system as well as federal and state systems and many other applications. Oversees and monitors the administration of the Student Employment Program, loan and default programs, and federal databases. This position is critical to the college's authorization to receive and administer Title IV funding in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The administration of this unit is central to the college's ability to fulfill its mission and enrollment goals and to the accessibility and affordability of post-secondary education for students, particularly the neediest students.
Requirements:
Formal Education, Courses, Training Programs, and Experience
A minimum of 5 years of financial aid experience at the administrative level is required.
A bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree in higher education administration, business or related field is strongly preferred; comparable professional experience at the director-level in financial aid may be considered in lieu of a master's.
Excellent financial aid technical skills, such as understanding of financial aid calculations required.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required, including verbal and written skills.
Prior experience with and participation in regional and national financial aid training workshops and conferences required.
Experience with the administration of the federal electronic data exchange process required.
Experience with campus-based programs required.
Experience with Maryland State Scholarship programs preferred; scholarship management experience required.
Prior supervisory, planning, and budgetary experience required.
Outstanding technology skills required, including experience with student information systems (Ellucian Datatel experience preferred), Windows, MS Office, querying software, digital imaging, and databases, including federal financial aid databases, and digital imaging (ImageNow preferred) technology.
Extensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid laws and regulations and ethics related to financial aid and student records privacy (FERPA) required.
Ability to work as a member of a team is required.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment while providing excellent customer service required.
