Assistant Professor of Biostatistics
. The position is part of a strategic hire opportunity supported by our Center for Population Health Research. The ideal candidate will be well prepared to develop an independently-funded research program. Areas of interest include biostatistics, health informatics, environmental health, clinical trials, data visualization and machine learning, data science, or any health-related, data-driven discipline. The successful applicant will also have an opportunity to teach classes within our undergraduate, masters, and/or PhD-level classes within the SPCHS.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Assistant Professor and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Required Qualifications and Experience
Ph.D. in biostatistics, statistics or a related field
Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
Strong record of research and publication history
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge and experience in human public health research
Proven ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts (both orally and in writing) to scientific and non-scientific audiences
Ability and willingness to undertake collaborative research
Ability to maintain a safe working and learning environment
Ability to achieve project goals on time and within budget
Expertise with standard database and statistical software packages
About the Center for Population Health Research, School of Public and Community Health Sciences and
UM
The Center for Population Health Research
is a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) funded by the National Institutes of Health and hosts an interdisciplinary, collaborative group of investigators focused on improving health with an emphasis on rural and children’s health. Investigators supported through CPHR engage in a variety of public health research topics and approaches, including epidemiology, mathematical modeling, exposure science, behavioral health and vaccine research. The Center includes two research support cores. The Data and Modeling Core provides capture and management of sensitive data, biostatistical and mathematical modeling approaches and the high-performance computational resources required to develop and apply these modeling approaches. The Intervention Support Core provides researchers with the quantitative (e.g., survey development) and qualitative (e.g., focus group) stakeholder input to inform next research steps and translation of findings to thoughtful and testable intervention strategies. In this way, we provide expert support to Center investigators for building future mixed methods intervention research.
The School of Public and Community Health Sciences

The SPCHS is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), and is the only accredited public health program in the state of Montana, and one of only a few in the Northern Rocky Region. We currently have 11 core faculty, with another 28 program and practitioner faculty affiliated with our School. Nearly two hundred students are enrolled in our academic offerings, making our School one of the fastest growing programs on campus. The SPCHS also has a heavy research focus, with faculty members and students engaged in research programs related to both domestic and international public health concerns.
