Job/Department Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Student Services Professional IV (SSP IV), the Academic Advisor and Equity Initiatives Assistant Coordinator performs basic professional student services work, utilizing a combination of high-level interpersonal skills and personal student contact. Academic advisors help students develop intentional decision making skills and strategies for academic success and work on problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage. At this level, the primary work processes typically following well structured work procedures and guidelines. Academic advisors provide developmental, academic advising to potential, current, and disqualified students on a drop-in, referral, or appointment basis and perform related activities supporting the University's focus on student success, retention, and graduation.
The position will work collaboratively, across divisions, to support institutional and college-level academic equity efforts by monitoring academic progress for historically-underserved student groups, while utilizing evidence-based best practices to strengthen retention and success.
Mandatory Vaccinations:
The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.
Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
Bilingual
Experience in academic advising, counseling, orientation, mentoring, teaching, or a related field.
Experience with student retention and support programs.
Required Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
One year of full-time equivalent experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate-level, job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.

Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm
Salary and Benefits Information:
$3,796 - $5,369 per month / $45,552 - $64,428 annually (New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning of the salary range)
