The primary role of the Director of Learning Services is to oversee and coordinate Rectory’s learning services programs. Logistically, this involves creating the Learning Support Schedule and assigning students to learning specialists and vice versa. More importantly, in this role the Director of Learning Services works with the Learning Specialists, the classroom teachers, and other school administrators to assure there is a clear and unified plan regarding student support and enrichment, ongoing and documented assessment of student progress, and regular communication and collaboration between adults working with the students. The Director of Learning Services will be asked to consult on student learning/student academic profile matters as they relate to all aspects of school life including enrollment decisions and requests for special services. The Director of Learning Services reports to the Director of Academics and serves as a member of the Committee For Academic Excellence. Major initiatives for the Director of Learning Services Examine ways to better expand the learning services program. Explore the development of an after-school tutoring program for local non-Rectory children. Assess the Department’s repertoire of instructional skills and, working with the Director of Academics, create a professional development plan to broaden our collective skill set as appropriate. Better promote the learning services programs to the broader community, including networking with consultants and learning services specialists. Coordinate the MAP Growth testing and, with the Director of Academics organize professional development connecting MAP Growth data with classroom instruction. Maintain congruency between the School’s board-approved mission and all student learning support services. Major Responsibilities Learning Services Articulate the Learning Services philosophy and programs. Develop, implement, and review the program’s curriculum. Direct the Learning Services' day-to-day operation, which includes scheduling students with Learning Specialists. Provide orientation for new Learning Specialists and ongoing professional development for veteran instructors. Liaison with the Division Directors about the educational needs of students. Assist in determining ESL program needs. Assist in enrollment decisions, as needed. Coordinate need for and set-up of examination accommodations and extra help sessions. Fulfill responsibilities outlined in the team leaders' job description, as appropriate. Promote positive staff morale. Student Matters Serve as a member of the elementary and middle school admission teams. Assist Division Directors and the Middle School Dean of Students in creating student plans for children in need. Oversee the process of working with the public school systems regarding referrals for special services, child find screenings, PPTs, and IEPs, etc. Oversee the development of the Student Learning Profile information published in Ed Modify. Faculty Matters Oversee the evaluation of LS Department members. Participate in the recruitment of new faculty for the LS Department. Maintain memberships with relevant educational groups such as ASCD (Association for the Supervision of Curriculum Development). Qualifications A Master’s degree in an appropriate educational field is required. At least 5 years of learning support service experience. A demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative management context. A passion for independent education as well as the professionalism, energy, and commitment necessary to achieve the responsibilities of this position. Excellent interpersonal skills.
