A Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics and research specialization in an Engineering Engineering field is required. Preferences will be given to candidates with research interests in condensed matter physics and its applications, electronics, nanoscience and nanoengineering technology, optics and photonics, biophysics, bioengineering and technology, biosensors, novel instrumentation methods, quantum information science and technology, engineering physics of complex light-matter interactions, plasma physics, and materials physics and engineering. The candidate is expected to build an on-campus research program, successfully seek sponsored research grants, and involve undergraduate and graduate students in scholarly activity. We seek a candidate who demonstrates excellence in teaching lecture and laboratory courses at all levels, especially to students of diverse backgrounds.
This position is part of a collaborative hiring effort between the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science and Physics in the broad areas of applied science and/or engineering, including: computer science, electrical, cybersecurity, systems, materials science, bio-analysis, sensors and sustainability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interest and ability to attract students and external funding in one or more of these areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a tenure-track assistant professor position request due to increasing demand to open more sections to of fundamental Physics Courses for Physics and Science Majors and providing the crucial research experience for our increasing UG majors and prospective graduate students. The department is in need for research active full-time faculty with 9cr/semester teaching load. The new faculty will develop new applied and engineering physics research areas and complement the existing research programs in the department. The main duties/functions of this tenure-track faculty will be
• developing a new research program in applied and engineering physics related areas
• teaching 18 credits per year and
• academic advising for Physics students
Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, and/or a related field of Engineering is required.
