Job Summary

Position Objective: To provide tobacco use prevention services to youth, families and community members across Kentucky.

Position Description: Supervised by the Program Director, the Youth Prevention Specialist works in schools and communities to facilitate tobacco use prevention services based on the #iCANendthetrend framework, which include:
1. Prevention Education
2. Information Dissemination
3. Youth Empowerment
4. Professional Development

Position Responsibilities:
Collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups, civic organizations, church groups, and other youth and community organizations to provide information and awareness on youth tobacco use, including e-cigarettes.
Implement peer-to-peer prevention program to provide information and awareness on youth tobacco use, including e-cigarettes.
Assist in providing orientation or information sessions for parents, teachers, staff or administrators in target area school and community sites when requested.
Document all program actives as required, and submit program reports and records according to the established deadlines.
Provide in-service training to staff on topics appropriate to expertise, interest, and knowledge.
Attend training, seminars, workshops, and classes to achieve required credentials and continuing education as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director to meet program objectives.

Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to prepare for a 3-5 minute mini-lesson on tobacco use prevention. The goal is for us to observe presentation and communication skills as well as comfort discussing tobacco prevention.

For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.

Network with other prevention and health service agencies within the region to provide comprehensive services, identify needs, and make referrals as necessary.
Participate in alcohol, tobacco or other drug awareness campaigns such as Red Ribbon Week, Great American Smoke Out, Kick Butts Day, etc.
Participate in health fairs, business expos, parades and other community events for the purpose of providing tobacco prevention messages.
Assist in maintaining and updating the community resource list, video reference list, curriculum inventory, program materials inventory, and physical inventory.
Assist in social media planning and communications.

Preferred Education/Experience

Pursuing a degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Communications, Political Science, Health or related field is required.
Pre-employment criminal background check, employment background check, as required by school districts.
Evidence-based curriculum training must be obtained within 1 month of employment, and prior to in-school or related program delivery.
