The Plymouth Institute of Education (PIoE) has a strong reputation, both nationally and internationally, for the quality and scope of its teaching and research. PIoE delivers a suite of programmes including BA undergraduate programmes, undergraduate and postgraduate ITE, as well as post-graduate, Masters and doctoral programmes. Based within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, thePlymouth Institute of Education(PIoE)works with a range of partners to offer high quality research, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The School's undergraduate courses offer many opportunities for students to benefit from work-based learning, and lead on to postgraduate study or a career in a range of educational and health settings. As well as conducting research into many aspects of education, students can also undertake a wide range of masters, doctoral and CPD programmes, with flexible study options to suit their needs. Research in PIoE is both excellent and highly distinctive, with its lifelong and life-wide approach; foregrounding the vital role learning plays in society and culture. The School has strong research links and networks across the world and a wide range of externally funded national and international research projects. We are looking for someone to fill a permanent 0.8FTE position, 29.6 hours per week (with opportunity to increase to a 1.0FTE, 37 hours per week) as lecturer for our popular PGCE Primary programme with potential for programme or ITE leadership opportunities. You will be confident and experienced to teach, tutor and assess on postgraduate modules, using appropriate pedagogic approaches to support and enthuse students both within their taught modules and their practice in schools. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. Ideally you will have practical experience of teaching in higher education or with adults in other education contexts. It is expected you will help and collaborate with other staff members in the Institute and in our partner agencies. We are particularly interested in candidates who are research active and seeking to use this opportunity to gain experience to further develop their career by engaging in leadership, teaching, research and development opportunities and projects that may lead to further research or publication in well regarded journals.
