Job Summary
This position contributes to the mission and vision of CHI Health by providing direct support to Trauma Services and indirect support to a designated group of patients across the age continuum. Collaborates with prehospital EMS providers, the Emergency Department, and inpatient units to collect and abstract data for trauma patients. Provides support for planning, development, and implementation of program goals and operations. Collaborates with full-time Trauma Registrar personnel to ensure complete entry of data into trauma database. Provides support for Trauma Services ongoing programming.

Collaborates with Medical Director of Trauma Program, Director of Trauma Services, Trauma Outreach Coordinator, and Trauma Registrar regarding data collection and abstracting, data submission and data reports necessary for maintenance of the trauma registry, data analysis and the Trauma Quality Improvement Processes
Contacts appropriate Emergency Medical Services agencies to obtain Patient Care Reports. Communicates with providers and patient care areas to assure completeness of patient care documentation.
Accurately abstracts trauma data, diagnoses, procedures and complications from medical records. Inputs data into trauma registry.
Identifies diagnoses and procedures from medical record documentation. Demonstrates a basic understanding of ICD coding for inpatient procedures.
Securely downloads Trauma Registry data to State and National Trauma Data Banks.
Participates in Region 1 Trauma System activities as assigned.
Attends Trauma Program meetings as assigned.
Complies with applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Corporate Ethics Program.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Works collaboratively with trauma staff, physicians, and other departments to achieve CHI Health initiatives.
Demonstrates support of and models the CHI Health mission, vision, and commitments.
Participates in and demonstrates work practices consistent with confidentiality, safety, security and infection control programs required and/or provided by the department.
Demonstrates the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
Able to work flexible hours and/or travel on an occasional basis.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School diploma or equivalency preferred.
Licensure

Experience
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in health-related field. Basic computer experience, medical terminology required and attention to detail required. Position requires visual and auditory acuity, and must be able to complete a detailed visual review of medical records and documentation.
