Job Summary
The Director of Career Development is responsible for all aspects of DVM placement, facilitates career opportunities, and plays a key role within the School. Creates an extensive program of engagement between the School and external constituencies to develop internship, residency and career opportunities, prepares DVM students and VMTH Residents for competitive DVM-level positions, and encourages employers (both public, private and academic) to hire UC Davis DVM graduates. The Director must be a visionary, innovative, and highly collaborative leader with the ability to purposefully facilitate strategic outreach, shape organizational development, and prioritize a wide array of projects. The Director serves as a member of the School of Veterinary Medicine's Office of Student Program's leadership team, and has additional Student Programs and diversity outreach responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work occasional evenings and weekends.
Travel, including overnight, in state and nationally.
A valid driver's license will be required for travel locally to Davis, Sacramento, and Bay Area.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
A Master's or other graduate degree.
At least 5 years of increasingly responsible experience leading a successful career placement or recruiting/business development program in higher education or within a large complex institution.
Experience solving complex problems, making difficult decisions and working with sensitive situations.
Skills to represent the School of Veterinary Medicine and the university with a high degree of persuasiveness and effectiveness in speech and in writing with senior corporate executives.
Knowledge of the career development profession and of issues and methods of placement in a business school or corporate setting.
Strong leadership, management, analytical and planning skills. Skills to make formal and informal presentations to a variety of audiences. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to collect and analyze data from diverse sources to recommend a course of action. Skills to initiate and execute complex programs and strategies.
Skills to effectively interact with diverse constituencies and to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff work teams, other units of the campus, and outside organizations. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and a high degree of professional ethics.
Preferred:
Familiarity with the legal and technical aspects of employment and some degree of familiarity with immigration law.
