The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences wishes to appoint a lecturer in one of the following broad areas: Energy transitions Environmental management and sustainability Applicants from the physical and social sciences are encouraged to apply. The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences is a large, interdisciplinary School with an enviable record of success. Our research and teaching activities address issues of sustainability on land and at sea, and we are seeking to appoint an excellent candidate capable of advancing our inter-disciplinary activities. You will work within either or both of the physical and social sciences, and demonstrate an ability to attract research funding and produce high-quality research outputs and / or impact. Teaching will be largely into undergraduate and postgraduate Environmental Science programmes, with the potential to expand into at least one other of our programme areas (Chemistry, Geography and Geology). We particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any of the following areas: renewable and sustainable energy; carbon footprinting and life-cycle analysis; environmental business and management; sustainability and systems thinking. The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences comprises nearly 60 academic staff and enjoys excellent support from well-resourced laboratory facilities (including 16 technicians). As well as depth and breadth in and across our subject areas, we have strong academic links across the institution with for example the University’s Sustainable Earth and Marine Institutes. Our staff members hold research income in excess of £13m from all major funding providers, and teach in excess of 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will be an enthusiastic team player, and your enthusiasm for your area of experitse will extend to providing excellent teaching informed by professional practice, scholarship and your own research experience. You will be developing / have developed a track record of excellent academic research, commensurate with the level of appointment and compatible with one of the REF 2021 UoAs to which we returned staff (6, 7 and 14).
