Job Description:
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Cultures at Assumption University seeks to hire one part-time lecturer in French for the academic year 2023-2024 to teach five courses, distributed as two in the fall and three in the spring.The Fall 2023 courses are French I, to meet M-W-F 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m., and French III, to meet M-W-F 12:30 a.m. - 1:20 p.m. Spring courses will consist of two sections of French II and, dependent on placements of the incoming student class, one section of combined levels IV and V. The spring schedule will be created in consultation with the lecturer. All classes are capped at 18 students. The position also includes the possibility to teach independent studies designed to meet individual student content needs.
Class meetings for the Fall 2023 semester run from August 28 through December 15. The Spring 2024 semester begins January 16 and ends May 10. Dates include the exam week and final grades' submission.
As the sole position in French, the lecturer also will represent the French program, along with the Department Chair. As such, the lecturer in French should plan extra-curricular activities as appropriate to the program's size. The Modern and Classical Languages and Cultures Department may expect the lecturer in French to represent the program at an occasional Admissions event. The person in the French position should be willing to attend department meetings when appropriate and to take part in department events as warranted.
Lecturers are welcomed as important contributors to the department and our students, and are provided with office space, a computer, email, voicemail, support for online teaching and other resources needed for quality teaching. Successful candidates will have the possibility to renew their contract for subsequent years, pursuant to department needs. A competitive salary will be offered.

Applicants should have a master's degree or PhD in French or a related field. ABD graduate students with prior teaching experience will also be considered.
