Profile

UM Housing invites applications to fill two Assistant Director positions. The focus of each position will be either Community Standards or Resident Education. Both Assistant Directors manage day-to-day activities related to full-time and student staff supervision, the residential experience, crisis response, and student conduct and support in the residence halls and apartments. While one Assistant Director will have a greater focus on Community Standards and one on Residential Education, specific duties will be assigned based on the skills of both incumbents. Regardless of assignment, both will be expected to work closely and collaboratively, and to have a working understanding of all areas to provide support and back-up to the other Assistant Director.
The Assistant Directors serve as University community standards officers. The Assistant Directors work to develop positive, safe, and inclusive communities under the guidelines established in **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and UM Housing policies. As it relates to the position responsibilities, the Assistant Director has the authority to make commitments and policies that affect department operations.
As an Assistant Director you will be a member of the UM Housing Department Leadership Team and serve as a liaison between the student staff and the Leadership Team. You will work with the Area Coordinators to manage and supervise the residential curriculum and social program endeavor in the residence halls and apartments; and develop, manage and coordinate living learning activities with campus partners with a goal of student retention. These programmatic endeavors will include opportunities for community enrichment, social and educational development, leadership development, and development of community within the living units.
Position duties common to both Assistant Directors include, but are not limited to:
Conduct research on national housing/community standards trends and/or ACUHO-I/ASCA standards and contrast with current department policy to determine long term, big picture goals, strategic planning, and oversight of human and financial resources
Track follow up on students of concern in assigned areas to ensure timely outreach and updates to the Director, Executive Director, and Behavioral Intervention team as needed
Adjudicate conduct hearings for students who have violated the Student Conduct Code or UM Housing policies within the residence halls and apartments, and general University hearings as assigned, utilizing Maxient software
Help facilitate all student staff trainings and take the lead in overall logistics of training series as assigned by the Director
Participate in an on-call duty rotation for the UM Housing community 365 days of the year and respond to situations as needed
Collaborate and effectively communicate with campus partners on University and Division Committees focusing on project planning, policy making, program implementation, or student services; and serve as a liaison to assigned academic and University departments whose functions affect residence hall and apartment students
Directly supervise full-time, Master’s Level Area Coordinators who oversee the paraprofessionals (Community Development Coordinators, Resident Assistants, Village Assistants, and Community Assistants, etc.) in the residence halls and apartments
Any tasks or responsibilities assigned at the discretion of the Director or Executive Director.
Assigned position duties to one or the other Assistant Directors based on incumbents include but not limited to:
Directly supervise Administrative Assistants who oversee the daily tasks at the Residence Hall Area Desks and oversee Area Desk administration
Oversee the recruitment, selection, and overall training curriculum for student employees working in the residence halls and apartments during the academic year and for summer conferences, and provide guidance and assistance to other staff assigned to facilitate or assist with training series
Serve as the departmental lead for human resource processes for student employment
Oversee the student employee hiring software, create and manage all student employee applications and reference checks; and oversee all student staff onboarding and staffing operations
Ensure all residential curriculum data is accurately tracked and documented
Manage student leadership initiatives related to student staff positions and residential leadership programs (PACs and Community Councils) guided by the residential curriculum, NACE Career Readiness competencies, and student leadership and experiential learning best practices
Develop, update, and administer the StarRez modules associated with the Residential Education operation including the Roommate Agreements, Resources, and Community modules
Serve as the senior Clery Compliance Officer for UM Housing, track Clery reportable crimes that happen on UM Housing property, compile and maintain the Campus Fire Log, compile, train, and log all CSAs (Campus Security Authorities) for UM Housing, and serve on the Clery Core Team for the campus
Oversee development and implementation of health and safety inspections policies, processes for enforcement, room and apartment inspections, and removal of prohibited items
Oversee development of crisis and on-call response procedures and related staff training, and the annual review and update of residence hall, University Villages, and Lewis and Clark Village policies and related publications
In collaboration with Executive Director and Director, take the lead on implementing case management and community standards processes both in and out of Housing and serve as the primary hearing officer, and oversee training and ongoing development of UM Housing community standards officers
Serve as a level five Maxient Administrator to the campus, and work in collaboration with the Director on the overall campus administration
Analyze student conduct trends and community impacts, direct UM Housing and Community Standards staff in student behavior management, and manage monthly, semester, and annual assessment and reporting efforts;

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package
including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
Salary for this position is $58,000-$62,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Public Administration or Counseling and four (4) years progressive experience in Housing management or community standards/student conduct position, including live in residence hall or apartment experience or significant student conduct adjudicatory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong knowledge of Housing and/or Community Standards and student personnel administration, student staff training and supervision, and diversity issues common within University Housing and Community Standards organizations
Ability to learn, understand, and utilize new technology within the office; establish, maintain, process and update electronic and paper files, records, and documents; Microsoft Office, Maxient, StarRez, or other database, spreadsheets, etc., for data viewing, collection and entry; and an overall understanding of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s mission, program, and policies
Possess a thorough ability to communicate with a wide variety of people in a precise and professional manner, both orally, electronically, and through written word
Ability to maintain an organized workload requiring multitasking and the need to prioritize various responsibilities with little supervision
Ability to coordinate work schedules with staff, students, faculty, guests, and visitors to ensure that both customer and building needs are met
Ability to formulate and enforce policies, complete departmental strategic planning, and assist with development of short- and long-term goals within the UM Housing operation
Familiarity with department safety and security systems, including fire safety systems, and train live-in staff on proper use and emergency response procedures
Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call duty rotation for the UM Housing community 365 days of the year and respond to situations as needed
Ability to work nights and weekends during certain times of the year and respond to emergency situations as needed
Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with conference housing program
Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics, crisis management, and the ability for problem solving
