FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in early childhood, childhood and adolescent education; advise students; participate and collaborate in mentoring students, provide service to the department, college, university, and community, (i.e., committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time lecturer appointment); and teach evening and/or weekend classes. The teaching load is 24 hours (8 courses). Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education has nationally recognized teacher certification programs that prepare teachers for Early Childhood (Birth to Grade 2) and Childhood (Grades 1-6) classrooms including those serving bilingual learners. The department offers an undergraduate 12-credit minor open to all undergraduate students who might be interested in either deepening their understandings about educating children or applying for a Minor to Masters program to become certified teachers in early childhood or childhood settings. Faculty in the Department are committed to the Lehman Urban Transformative Education framework adopted by Lehman’s School of Education. Our goal is to nurture caring, locally and globally aware and socially just teachers. We believe in the rich contribution of each of our educational partners in shaping our transformative practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
Rank of Lecturer
Bachelor’s degree in area(s) of expertise relevant to teacher education, and the ability to successfully teach foundational coursework related to the preparation of teachers and advise students. Experience teaching diverse learners.
Preference will be given to candidates with: (1) master’s degree in education or a related field; (2) demonstrated ability to teach social and psychological foundations courses, in particular, ability to teach theories of development and learning from birth through adolescence; (3) ability to teach courses in understanding children from birth to grade 6 in the context of family, schools and/or communities and early literacy; (4) knowledge of child observation and assessment including both holistic qualitative forms of assessment as well as evaluation and measurement; (5) demonstrated commitment to social justice, multi-modal learning, anti-racist pedagogies, multilingualism, and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining pedagogy; (6) ability to collaborate in recruiting students for undergraduate education minor programs; (7) demonstrated ability to effectively teach adults in education programs in various modalities including in person, hybrid, synchronous and asynchronous modalities; and (8) experience teaching diverse learners between birth and early adolescence. than one language is a plus.

In addition to the preference above, Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
